Welcome to the HyperSpin Nestopia Installation tutorial.  Nestopia is the supported emulator for the Nintendo Entertainment System for HyperSpin.  Make sure to have your game files ready to install with Nestopia.

NOTE: Do not ask for or solicit game roms using any of the features of the HyperSpin website.

First, you'll need to download the latest Nestopia release from their sourceforge download page at: Nestopia (click on the title highlighted yellow, then select Nestopia 1.40 Binary)
.

Since we'd like to keep our HyperSpin install organized, we'll add Nestopia to the Emulators folder located in our main HyperSpin install folder.  If you do not yet have this folder, you can create it by selecting (from the Menu Bar) File>New>Folder and name your folder Emulators.  Inside of that folder, create another folder named Nestopia.

alt

Next, create a folder named RomFiles in the Emulators folder (pictured above) if you don't already have one.  In the RomFiles folder, create a new folder called Nintendo.  This is where you'll put your game files.

alt

Place your NES No-Intro game roms in the RomFiles\Nintendo folder.  Make sure your files are No-Intro.  You can use the dats available at HyperList or the No-Intro site with a rom management program like clrmamepro to rename your files if necessary.

alt

Now you need to extract the Nestopia program.  With the 7-zip archival client (www.7-zip.org) you can right-click and use the Extract Files context menu option.  Select the folder browser (highlighted in yellow) to navigate to the Emulators\Nestopia folder you created earlier.  Click OK.

alt

Open Hyper HQ, click on the Wheel Settings tab and select Nintendo Entertainment System from the Choose a Wheel drop menu.  You'll notice that the emulator path and rom path already match where you installed Nestopia and your game files.  Also, the zip extension is also already set for NES games.  HyperLaunch and Use Full Paths is also already selected.

Before you launch HyperSpin to play your Nintendo games, you'll want to do a few more things.  First, place your Box Art in the Media\Nintendo Ent...\Images\Artwork2 folder (for the Default system theme that comes with HyperSpin, it may be different for alternate system themes).  You can get 2D and 3D Box sets from the Downloads pages.  2D Sets are available here.  3D sets are available here.

Next, we'll place our emumovies.com previews in the Media\Nintendo...\Video folder.  You'll notice that this location is the default setting that came with your HyperSpin install (see Hyper HQ below).

NOTE: If you want to change any of the default settings (for example, if you already have Nestopia installed and don't want to move it) you can change any of these settings in Hyper HQ.

alt

Before you can run Nestopia in HyperSpin, you need to change your video settings and change any controls settings that you will use.  Navigate to the nestopia.exe file and run it.  When the window opens, select Options then Video.

alt

This will bring up the Video Options window.  To keep video settings even for all games in HyperSpin, you may want to use a setting that works with all games.  For simplicity's sake, we'll stick with 800x600 (click on the Mode to bring up the drop menu shown below and select your desired setting).

alt

Next, click on Options again, this time select Preferences (highlighted in yellow below).  Check the 'Fullscreen on startup' option (highlighted in blue below) and deselect 'Confirm Exit'.  Close the Preferences window and close Nestopia.

alt

You may also want to make sure that the File Associations boxes are checked as shown above in case you use variant naming.  Finally, you may want to change control settings to match your cabinet controls.  From the Nestopia window, select Options>Input.  This will bring up the window shown below.  You can change the input device and specific key mappings including game-specific settings here (menu on left).  Select the key you want to change in the Mapping menu and click Set (highlighted in yellow) to set.  Nestopia will wait 5 seconds for you to enter a new key.  You can also click on Set All (next to Set) to set the entire mapping for that player's controls.

alt

Once you've finished with this, you can close Nestopia and run HyperSpin.  You're ready to play!
