Welcome to the ZSNES installation tutorial for HyperSpin. ZSNES is an emulator for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Begin by collecting your SNES game files. Then, download the zsnesw emulator program at their home page: zsnes.com
NOTE: Do not ask for or solicit game roms using any of the features of the HyperSpin website.
Since we'd like to keep our HyperSpin install organized, we'll add ZSNES to the Emulators folder located in our main HyperSpin install folder. If you do not yet have this folder, you can create it by selecting (from the Menu Bar) File>New>Folder and name your folder Emulators. Inside of that folder, create another folder named SNES.
Now you need to extract the ZSNES program. Navigate to where you downloaded the zsnes archive. With the 7-zip archival client (www.7-zip.org) you can right-click and use the Extract Files context menu option. Select the folder browser (highlighted in yellow) to navigate to the Emulators\SNES folder you created earlier. Click OK.
Next, create a subfolder in the Emulators folder named RomFiles (from the Explorer window, Select File>New>Folder). Alternatively, you can use the right-click context menu to create a new folder. Once you've created the RomFiles folder, create another folder inside of it called SNES. This is where you'll put your SNES game files.
Place your Super Nintendo Entertainment System game files in the new RomFiles\SNES folder. Make sure your files are No-Intro. You can use the dats available at HyperList or the No-Intro site with a rom management program like clrmamepro to rename your files if necessary.
Once you've finished installing the emulator and game files, you'll want to make some configuration settings for the ZSNES emulator out side of HyperSpin before adjusting its settings in HyperHQ. Run the program. You will see an introduction window (shown below). Press the space bar to continue.
Using the mouse or arrow keys, navigate to CONFIG>VIDEO. Scroll down the MODES selections to locate your desired resolution. The legend on the right gives you additional information about the descriptions. A typical setting might be the 800x600 DR F (800x600 resolution, allowing filters, aspect ratio maintained, fullscreen). Once you've chosen your desired setting, click the SET button and press the spacebar.
If you'd like to reconfigure the input keys select CONFIG>INPUT and the menu below will appear. When you click on a key (the UP key was selected for resetting) the box shown below appears. Just press the key you want to use for the new assignment.
Unless you want to make more specific changes to the ZSNES emulator's controls, video, or audio settings, you're done configuring it outside of HyperSpin. Run HyperHQ and select Wheel Settings. From the Choose a Wheel menu, select Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
As you can see, the default Emulator path and Rom path (in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.ini found in the Settings folder) matches what we've set up. We won't have to change any of that.
Next, we'll place our emumovies.com previews in the Media\Super Nintendo...\Video folder. You'll notice that this location is the default setting that came with your HyperSpin install (see Hyper HQ below).
NOTE: If you want to change any of the default settings (for example, if you already have zsnes installed and don't want to move it) you can change any of these settings in Hyper HQ.
