HyperSpin runs slow on my computer, what should I do?
There are a couple things you can do to make HS run a little more efficient on your PC. First you can try lowering your desktop resolution. Try running your desktop at 640x480 if you have fullscreen mode set. Also built into HyperHQ are optimization settings. You can try turning things off like different levels of artwork transitions or even turn off transitions altogether. If you think video previews are causing some slowdown then you can optionally use png screenshots in place of videos. You could also try reducing the application quality settings. If you ever consider upgrading your pc , then you should mostly concentrate on getting a good cpu rather than a good video card.
Where do I get roms and cd images for emulators?
Unfortunately this is not something we like to talk about here for legal reasons. You're on your own with this one.
When I try launching a game, nothing happens or I get an error message?
When this happens you should look at the HyperSpin log.txt file located in your installation directory for more information. The most common cause of this issue is that your rom files do not match the naming in the database. You probably have to update your roms or rename your current ones or create a database from HyperList based on your current romset. Another cause of this is that your emulator isn't setup properly and is possibly causing an error outside of HS. In this case you should ensure your emulator is configured properly outside of HS first before attempting to launch games from the frontend. The best way to test your emulator is properly configured is to run the emulator and rom from the command line if you know how to do so.
What is HyperLaunch; do I really need it?
When you launch a game or program from HyperSpin it simply calls the program from the command line with any optional parameters. This is fine for most cases, but if you want ultimate control over how a program launches then you have the option of having HyperSpin launch a script instead and in turn that script will launch the program. HyperLaunch is an open source script (using the AutoHotKey program) that can be modified by anyone using a text editor such as wordpad or notepad. The benefit of the script is that you can set custom exit keys or key combos for stubborn emulators that don't have exiting features. You can also do things like hide the mouse cursor and launching windows for a more seamless execution of your programs. The possiblities are endless if you know how to script using AutoHotKey. We are glad to help if you have any custom scripting requests. HyperLaunch isn't necessary but does have its benefits if you opt to use it.
My old frontend has a feature that HyperSpin doesn't have?
We love to hear your feedback and feature requests and have forums just for that. You can request anything you like, it doesn't mean that it will be added but we have fulfilled many, many requests. HS is becoming very feature rich as time goes on and we do listen to you. All criticisms and requests are welcome here; we use that information to make HS better with each build.
HyperSpin looks like an Ultracade, what's up with that?
HyperSpin was initially just a test for me to see if I could produce a similar interface to the popular Ultracade machine which is a commercial arcade product that was very expensive with a limited amount of games. I noticed right away that it was the best interface for an arcade I had ever seen in my opinion, not just because of the interesting use of artwork but the actual entertainment value the machine actually had just from navigating games, nothing any good FE had. At the time it wasn't really meant to be a huge project or a fully featured frontend but just a personal program I could use to play with artwork which is what I really love to do. Making my own themes sounded like a lot of fun. Apparently alot of other people felt this way and joined a small community and the whole project blew up into what it is today. The creators of the Ultracade liked the project and even gave suggestions on what could be done to improve the interface with ideas not seen in the actual Ultracade machine. Now HS has even more features, but not as many features in the commercial aspect portion of the UC.
Should I become a Gold Member, how will this benefit me?
Becoming a Gold Member on our website means that you want to show your support in return for all of the work being done here. Creating HS has been a huge undertaking for several years now. All of the work that has been done is being done for free and HyperSpin will always be free for anyone to use, but we do have server and website costs, and it also takes money to buy better tools for programming, etc.. The frontend is one of the most important pieces in your cabinet setup, yet its free. Donating to the HS project is just a drop in the bucket compared to what it can cost for the entire cabinet project. We try to give Gold Members some extra benefits on the site like personal galleries/image hosting, profile upgrades and faster download times. We also have a private FTP server setup where users can collaborate on projects easier together and download all the themes and artwork in a much easier manner. We try to keep this area very up to date with the latest and greatest stuff.
HyperSpin is so customizable with all these cool themes, how do I make a theme?
Yes, HyperSpin can be customized is almost every way. Visually it's a feast, a real testament to the community of art contributors here. You can make your own themes by downloading the HyperTheme program, also available on the Downloads pages.
With the newest HyperTheme, you can add images, sound, swf (flash) animations, and even create particle effects. The possibilities are almost endless. You can even edit existing themes to suit your own needs or even just improve upon them. Also, the latest version of HyperTheme will import Photoshop PSD files (when properly set up) for theme creation (see the PSDs tutorial in the HyperTheme menu).
May I redistribute HyperSpin?
HyperSpin may not be re-distributed in part or in whole without the consent of the HyperSpin team. See the Terms of Service for more information.
