Let’s begin by opening up HQ and clicking on the Wheel Settings tab.
Choose MAME from the dropdown menu located at the top.
Now more options will be displayed in the different tabs below. We'll just configure the Emulator tab. The other tabs are the same for all Sub-Wheels.
Next we will setup our emulator paths. Find the icons for the Executable and Rom Path shown in yellow below. Click the Executable folder selection icon first.
Browse till you find your MAME executable file and click OPEN
Next click on the Rom Path folder selection icon (highlighted in blue) and select the folder where your roms or game files are stored.
NOTE: If your roms are on a separate drive from your MAME or HyperSpin, make sure to select 'Use Full Path to Roms'
Since MAME is an emulator and not a Windows based PC game, we’ll leave the PC Game setting as disabled.
You can launch your emulator or program directly, using only command-line parameters, or you can use HyperLaunch that adds special features, such as escape keys, video settings parameters, and other features to help load more complicated emulators. Since MAME uses the Escape key to exit by default, and this matches HyperSpin’s default key settings, we’ll take just a second to show you what the Normal settings look like.
MAME uses roms with the .zip extension so just leave that the way it is.
HQ also provides you with a command line preview that changes as you choose different options.
As you can see from the image above, we have selected the Normal execution mode and the Command Line Preview has changed.
One other setting available is the WinState drop menu or the state of the loading window when HyperSpin launches the emulator. The default setting for this is HIDDEN.
