Special Artwork
In addition to the regular artwork that HyperSpin themes use, you’ll notice some other artwork. The image below illustrates some of the Special Art you’ll find in HyperSpin.

The Main Menu uses only two of the three Special Art objects. When HyperSpin is running, the art is actually animated and shows you how to move the joystick to switch systems and navigate. Below is the Special Art screen for the Main Menu wheel.

As you can see, there are many options to set for Special Art including position, type of entry/exit, starting position, and timing. Before we look further into these settings, we’ll take a look at how the game or system wheel differs. Notice in the image below an additional item, the ‘Current Genre’ art.

Special Art C is only used within system wheels, not on the Main Menu wheel. You’ll see that once you pull up a system, the Special Art C options also appear.

Since the Special Art A and B settings work the same with the Main Menu as well as any game systems, we’ll use the other wheel settings to show how all three work. If you’d rather not see some of the Special Art, you can uncheck the Enabled button for that item. Now that you know which art is which, let’s try one. First, we’ll uncheck Special Art A.

Now let’s see how that worked.

Now we’ll uncheck Special Art B, the art that flashes ‘Press Start’ and ‘Free Play.’ This will leave the joystick instructions for users.

Now we’ll see the results.

If you want to keep the ‘Current Genre’ info from showing for any system, just uncheck the Special Art C option.
Looking back at the HQ Special Art Sub-Tab, you will notice the other options mentioned earlier. The description box at the bottom of the screen tells you the purpose of each setting. The remaining options are highlighted.

If you have other Special Art you want to use in place of Artwork A, just place that art in the Media\Images\Special folder for your particular system. Remember to uncheck Use Default.

You’ll notice that there aren’t any Special Art B files or images in the system folder. If you look in the Main Menu folder, you’ll find them there. HyperSpin just looks for them there unless you uncheck ‘Use Default’ for Special Art B.
Rather than restating what is best stated in the HQ description box, here are the timing and animation adjustments you can make:
X/Y - The position the artworks animate to.
In/Out - Time it takes the artworks to animate in and out of position
Length - The length of time the artwork stays in position before animating out.
Delay - The amount of time to wait between animations.
Type - The style of animation you want to use.
Start - The side of the screen you want the animations to start from and exit to.
