Navigation/Themes Settings

Let’s take a look at how you can customize the way you navigate in HyperSpin.  Open Hyper HQ and click on the Wheel Settings tab.  Select an emulator or program and click on the Navigation/Themes tab as shown below.

There are several options here for customizing the way you move through HyperSpin.  Most everything you’ll need to know is explained in the description box below.  We’ll illustrate the most important aspects here.
To set the number of games HyperSpin ‘jumps,’ change your number using the up/down arrows.  Additionally, to set the amount of time you hold the joystick before switching to letter select, adjust the ‘Jump Timer’ (highlighted in yellow).  The lower the number the less time you hold the joystick down to activate the letter select menu.

HyperSpin also allows you to set index points in your XML files so that you can jump to those points. When this box is checked HS will sort your list on the wheel according the the way the xml is ordered, not alphabetically by the frontend.  This is good because then you can organize your games into any order you like, the only drawback is that now HS doesnt know how to jump letters anymore when pressing left or right.  To over come this the indexes in the xml must be set manually.  When you set the index in the xml you also must associate a png image with that index.  This tells HS where your letters are located exactly on the wheel.  In your database it might look like this   name = "Some Game" index = "true" image = "s" .   Now you must have a png file named "s" in your letters folder for that system.  This effectively gives HS back the letter jumping functionality as if you had "use indexes" unchecked.  If you leave this unchecked HS will organized your games automatically when loading, but you lose the ability to custom sort your games.

Select ‘Themes Only’ (highlighted below) to have HyperSpin only load games for which you have themes.  Additionally you can select to load only parent sets or games for which you have wheel art by selecting those checkboxes.  Your Navigation/Themes tab should look like the image below for using XML indexes and the themes only setting.

Most of the other settings on this tab won’t be changed by most users.  You can choose to have HyperSpin remember the last game played on any system by selecting ‘Return to last game’ (this is the default setting) or load a random theme by selecting ‘Start on random game’ (highlighted below).

To start at the top of your XML game list, uncheck both ‘Wheel Entrance Options.’

Note: In the event you leave both Wheel Options checked, Random game selection will override Start on last game.
