Dear HyperSpin friends, I've put together a package of sorts, aimed at HyperSpin newcomers and veterans alike. I've been continuously grooming a custom "best of MAME" database, bezel set, and MAME ini file set for quite a while now. My goal is to provide something that someone can drop into a fresh setup or custom wheel and be up and running right away. I intend to release updates to the individual downloads on a periodic basis, so check the change logs for more information going forward. The package is split into three parts, as follows. Put together, these downloads will have results as shown in the screenshots. HyperSpin MAME.xml database (THIS DOWNLOAD, see below for details) Corresponding RocketLauncher bezel set (Link) MAME ini files (Link) File information: This download contains a custom "best of MAME" HyperSpin XML database. It contains both standard ROM-based games as well as some CHD-based games. It may be copied over an existing MAME.xml file and run against a full romset to achieve a pared down result. The database was developed for a 2-player cabinet with standard orientation, 8-way joysticks and six buttons per player. There is no trackball or spinner on the control panel. So that being said, following are the requirements kept in mind as I develop it: Top 350-ish working MAME arcade games (totally subjective, of course) Based on official HS MAME database I'm in the US and think the US loading screens are cool, so wherever possible I've included US clones instead of parent ROMs 2-player clones of 3+ player games are included instead of parents (ex: TMNT and X-Men) No driving, spinner, dial, trackball, analog, or really custom control games (apologies to many great games) Install instructions: Download file Copy into your \HyperSpin\Databases\MAME folder, overwriting your existing MAME.xml List of included games (by ROM name): 1942 1944 1941u 1943kai 1943u 1945kiii 19xx 3countb 3wondersu aerofgts airwolf aliens aliensyn alpham2 altbeast armwaru astdelux astorm astyanax asurabus asterix atetris avspu baddudes batcir batmanfr batrideru batsugunsp bbakraid berzerk bgaregga bionicc2 bjtwin blazstar blitz2k blktiger bloodbro bloxeedu bnj bombjack boogwing bosco bstars2 btime btoads bubbles bublbob2 bublboblr bubsymphu buckyuab bwidow cabal captavenu captcommu choplift circusc cloak cninjau commando contra cotton2 cottonbm cottonu crimecu crimfght cstlevna ctribe darius2 dariusg dariusu dassault dbreed dbz ddonpach ddp2 ddpdojblk ddragon2u ddragon3 ddragonu ddsomu ddtodu deadconx defender digdug dimahoou dinou dkong dkong3 dkongjr dkongx docastle donpachi dowild dragnblz drmario dsaber dsmbl dstlku dungeonm dynwar eagle ecofghtru edrandy eightman elevator elvactr esprade eswatu excitebk fatfursp fatfury1 feversos ffightub finalbu foodf footchmp frogger frontlin funkyjet futariblj ga2 gaiapols gaiden galaga galaxian gallop gaplus garou gaunt22p gauntlet2p gberet gground ghostb ghoulsu gijoeu gnbarich gngt goldnaxe gorf gradius gradius2 gradius3 gradius4 grdians growlu gunbird gunbird2 gunforc2 gunsmokeu guwange gyruss hcastle hharryu hitice hotdogst indytemp inthunt invaders jojo jojoba joust jrpacman jungleh junofrst karianx kengo kingdmgp kinst kinst2 knightsu kodu kof98 kotm kotm2 kungfumd kyros ladybug lastblad lastbld2 lifefrce lightbr liquidku loht lrescue lwings macross magdrop3 mainevt2p mappy mario matmania mazinger megaman megaman2 mercsu metamrph mikie mk mk2 moomesauac mooncrst mp_gaxe2 mp_sor2 mpatrol mrdo mrdrillr mshu mshvsfu mslug mslug2 mslug3 mslug4 mslug5 mslugx mspacman mtrap mushisam mvscu mwalku mysticri mystwarru nam1975 narc nastarw nbajam nbbatman ncommand nemesis nibbler ninjaku nitd nitrobal nrallyx nslasheru nspirit numanath nwarru openice osman outfxies outzone pacman pacmania pang3 panic paperboy pbobble pengo pepper2 pgoal phoenix popeye prehisleu progear psychic5 pulstar punchout punisher puyo puyopuy2 pyros qbert qix quartet2 raiden raiden2 raidendxu rallybik rampage rastanua rbff2 rbibb rbisland rbtapper rdft2u rfjetu roboarmy robocopu robotron rtype2 rtypeleo rtypeu rygar s1945 s1945ii s1945iii s1945p salmndr2 samsho samsho2 scobra scramble sengoku2 sf2uk sfa2u sfa3u sfau sfiii2 sfiii3u sfiiiu shadfrceu shinobi shocktro simpsons2p slammastu sncwgltd snowbros socbrawl sokyugrt sonicwi2 sonicwi3 spelunkr spf2t spidmanu splatter ssf2tu ssridersubc strider supermanu superpac superspy suprmrio svc tankbatt tengai thndzone timeplt tmnt22pu tmnt2po tnzs toobin tron truxton2 turfmast twincobru uballoon uccopsar umk3 uopoko vanguard vendetta2p vf viewpoin vigilantg viostormu vsav2 vsavu wakuwak7 warriorb wboy willowu wjammers wof wow wwfmania wwfsstaru wwfwfest xevious xmcotau xmen2pa xmvsfu zaxxon zookeep
  2. No video snaps MAME

Hi guys, i have MAME configures and running on hyperspin, everything works besides, my video snaps I've downloaded a full pack to match my roms from emuparadise, all *.mp4 files, but they show only black screen and sound. I've test with one from emumovies and it works! Is it a conversion problem? Anyone knows how to solve it, it's about 17gb of video, it's a lot to download one at a time from emumovies. Thanks, best regards
  3. Wrapping my hands around MAME

Ok so I've got my consoles set pretty decently, now I'm treading into MAME. I have a romset, it's like 40gigs and its 0188u0 i believe. Of course, none of the things are named correctly. What's the best way to attack this romset to get it organized - named correctly, parsed down to English only releases, etc? Or is it best to just find alternative sources for individual MAME games, as I'd only want maybe 100-200 of them anyway...
  4. 4k monitors? Which monitors to get

Hi there. I've never done this before. I'm building a Hyperspin cabinet for the kids in our youth group. I would love to go 4k, but not sure if that causes problems or not. Can you please recommend the best monitor/tv to use with minimal input lag for both the main game display and also a hyper marquee setup? Actually - what is the hyper marquee monitor that looks like the old marquees? Like an extra wide but shorter monitor? Any and all help is appreciated. Want to get cracking on this build soon! Thank you in advance! -Creech

Put together, these downloads will have results as shown in the screenshots. HyperSpin MAME.xml database (Link) Corresponding RocketLauncher bezel set (THIS DOWNLOAD, see below for details) MAME ini files (Link) File information: This download contains a set of RocketLauncher bezels which match the "best of MAME" XML database referenced above. Not every game has a bezel yet, but progress continues either by myself or other artists in the community. All credit is due to the original artists and all file names should contain bezel creator names. I've merely gone through what's available, selected my personal favorites, renamed them to match ROMs, and included them here. Or I've created or modified (with permission/credit) them myself. Info/caveats: The version number of this pack corresponds to the percentage of Bezel coverage to the "best of" database mentioned above (ex: if 50% of games have bezels, the version number will be 0.50) Entire pack is split into three zip files to meet the site's file size restrictions All bezels are 16x9, and at least 1920x1080 For each game with bezels available I've picked my favorite and included it A default bezel is included for those games without coverage Bezel folder names match ROM names in the "best of" database (important for clones) Install instructions: Download files Extract compressed folders into your \RocketLauncher\Media\Bezels\MAME folder Assuming you've got bezels enabled in RocketLauncher... Enjoy!

Several other custom ini files are included for specific games. Info/caveats: The version number of this pack corresponds to the version of MAME used Configured for 1920x1080; if you're running something higher resolution, you'll need to change those lines in the ini files - Line #343 & 344 You'll need to edit the ini files to point to your own ROM folder (mine is C:\Arcade\ROMs\MAME, for example) - Line #10 Install instructions: Download files Extract files into your \MAME\ini folder, overwriting anything there Edit the ini files to point to your ROM folder Enjoy!
  8. I installed a bunch of new consoles on my HS last weekend (using Shield TV PRO). Most worked without any issues but I'm having problems with getting a few of them to run....Astrocade, Adventurevision, and Atari 5200. All of these systems I've set up using MAME to emulate, via the Working Systems list posted in this form. I have MAME working fine on my HS setup, but these classic consoles using the MAME emulator to run aren't palying anything. I must have it set up wrong but I don't know what I'm doing. Possibly a BIOS issue? I never added any for these consoles but I didn't see any mention anywhere of having to use a BIOS either. Here are my settings for the 5200 but the Astrocade + Adventurevision settings look the same: path=H:\hyperspin\emulators\Atari 5200\ rompath=Emulators/Atari 5200/roms/ userompath=true exe=com.retroarch/com.retroarch.browser.retroactivity.RetroActivityFuture romextension=a52 parameters=cores/mame_libretro_android.so

Hi guys, I recently downloaded a torrent of a full rom pack for Mame 0.185 but it turns out to be Mame 0.183 Can someone please help me to find the best emulator to play these through hyperspin? I recently used MAMEUFIX but was not aware they don't go higher than 0.75 And I can't seem to fin an emu for 0.183 has anyone got any links for one? It will be very much appreciated
  10. Hi: I'm having a problem viewing the video snap for Guerrilla War (gwar) for MAME in Hyperspin. I have the video snap and it plays fine on its own, but in Hyperspin the theme loads up and I can hear the video snap but not view it in the theme window. I believe it is an xml error - the video is not being placed where the window is; however, I do not know how to fix this. I'm hoping someone can instruct me on how to do this. I have attached the theme and here's what the xml says: <?xml version="1.0"?> -<Theme> <video start="none" type="grow" bshape="round" bcolor3="0" bcolor2="0" bcolor="0" bsize3="0" bsize2="0" bsize="10" delay="0.5" time="2.5" forceaspect="none" below="no" r="-7" y="309" x="211" h="524" w="398"/> <artwork1 start="bottom" type="none" delay="0" time="2" y="531" x="213" rest="none"/> <artwork2 start="top" type="grow" delay="0" time="2" y="128" x="507" rest="none"/> <artwork3 start="none" type="none" delay="0.5" time="1" y="70" x="227" rest="none"/> <artwork4 start="left" type="none" delay="0.5" time="2" y="603" x="74" rest="none"/> </Theme> gwar.zip
  11. WOOOOOOOP!!!!!!!!! I just loaded an Atari 5200 game with MAME (Arcade) RA core from Hyperspin that is named as per the official Hyperspin xml. NOT using software lists or hash files. In a rom folder named Atari 5200. BUT its 11pm and I got work at 6am so gotta sleep. Its not all good news as this method requires a bunch of text files to be created. I expect someone will come up with a little script easy enough for that. Until I have tested more it could be nothing but I dont think it is.

HyperSpin MAME Renamer is a Windows application that will take a HyperSpin XML file, a MAME softlist XML file, a folder containing ROMs, and multiple artwork folders. It will then use this information to rename the ROMs and artwork files so that they correspond to the MAME short name. The application works in two stages. When you have entered your file/folder details it will process the data in the two XML files and attempt to automatically map the data. Various options for how data should be mapped are available: Automatically map games based on CRC values - When a game has the same CRC value in the HyperSpin database and the MAME XML file then it will be considered a match. Automatically map games where the name is an exact match (excluding ROM tags) - If a game cannot be matched by CRC then it will perform a fuzzy name search. If this option is selected then any games with the same name, apart from ROM tags such as (Europe), (USA) etc. will be considered a match. Automatically select the best name where no exact match is available - If a game cannot be matched by CRC or exact name then the best match will be automatically selected. This option is off by default. You will be able to review the mappings on the "Mappings" tab, as well as manually amend the mappings by using the drop-down in the "Map To" column. This games listed in the drop-down are ordered by how close the names match. Note that when a game was matched by CRC only that game will appear in the list since we can be certain we have the right game and therefore don't need to do the fuzzy name search. Once you are happy with the mappings, click the "Rename" button to proceed. The application will then use the mappings to rename the files. Optionally, the application can also verify that the ROM files match the CRC values in the MAME XML file as part of this process. The files will be written to the output folder in the following structure: HyperSpin XML file.xml - A copy of the HyperSpin database file, with the names updated to use the MAME short names and the CRC values updated to those expected by MAME. - Roms - The ROMs folder will contain the renamed ROMs. These will be automatically put into .zip files so that they can be used with MAME. - Artwork - This folder will contain sub-folders for each artwork folder you selected. The names of the sub-folders will match the names of the input artwork folders e.g. if you selected C:\Users\Me\Downloads\Artwork4 then you will get a sub-folder called "Artwork4" Source code to the application is available here: https://github.com/ChrisSimpson/Hyperspin-MAME-Renamer
  13. Disable hyperspin wheel

Good afternoon All, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I would like to know if anyone knows how to disable the hyperspin wheel. Currently, I go into HyperSpin which then loads the HyperSpin wheel, from there I click onto MAME logo which inturn takes me into the MAME Wheel with all the Roms. what I would like to achieve is, when clicking on the HyperSpin logo on my desktop, it takes me directly into my MAME Wheel. So it bypasses the HyperSpin wheel. If anyone can assist, that would be appreciated.

  18. Hi everyone, These forums have been great and I am getting into final steps of my machine setup. Couldnt have done it without you. Here is my roadblock..... I have an aimtrak lightgun and a utrak trackball both running via Mame. Games like golden tee and area 51 work great when launched straight from mame. Once I open the same games via hyperspin nothing works. The lightgun will still work in Nestopia so I know its close, but I am not sure what I have configured wrong. Does this have something to do with me using a keyboard encoder?
  19. Ok, I've been able to implement Bezels within RocketLauncher. It looks pretty slick too I must add. However there is a problem. Rocket Launcher Bezels from what I understand only use a windowed mode when having them active. While this looks good, I use and AMD Card with built in Freesync and Freesync Monitor in my cab. When running MAME in full screen mode, I get perfect frame emulation without stuttering and zero screen tearing regardless of the game. This is especially visible in games like Mortal Kombat that have oddball framerates. But when moving to windowed mode with bezel support, it uses the desktop refresh rate, and I get stuttering again. This isn't a problem with Nintentdo, Dreamcast, or other emulation applications because console based emulation rarely uses a refresh rate other than 60, and the desktop is set to use 60hz. But it is a problem with Mame. My question is this, is there a way to run full screen mode while retaining the Bezel? Like for example, will the baked in MAME bezel support use bezels but actually run full screen? Or am I locked into a situation where I either have full screen mode with black bars and perfect frame emulation, or slick looking bezels with frame stuttering?

  21. MAME IPAC4 Help Needed PLease

Hi All, Newbie here with some issues: I just finished wiring up my 4 player control panel using an IPAC4. Player 1 = 7 buttons Player 2 = 7 buttons Player 3 = 4 buttons Player 4 = 4 buttons three extra buttons ESC, TAB, ENTER 1 trackball and 2 associated buttons (Left & Right mouse buttons). I have installed/setup hyperspin and rocket launcher. I have only added 3 emulators (MAME, NEOGEO & DAPHNIE). After watching multiple simply austin vids I believe i have installed all programs correctly, and since i am able to play all roms without any kinks. However, i have just encountered something that really took the wind from my sails. My friend and I were playing SF2; i got my butt kicked the first round. I realized that my P2 buttons 3-6 were not working. I escaped out of hyperspin and checked my IPAC4 keyboard checker and they checked out. So, i go into my MAME emulator located in my hyperspin folder and boot up MAME (Not through Hyperspin) and checked the Global controls, i found buttons 3-7 were not mapped under player 2. Therefore, i mapped these buttons through the use of my control panel. Now, thinking i have corrected the problem, boot up hyperspin, go into MAME and re-start SF2. The controls work after the mapping, however a new problem arises. During battle my buttons suddenly are remapped: P2 Button 3 becomes ESC P2 Button 2 becomes P1 down P2 Button 4 becomes P1 up So, i shut down hyperspin and restart hyperspin and again go into SF2. Same button re-mapping result, however for a new kicker, after i exit out of hyperspin the MAME emulator is still running in a window not tied to hyperspin!! I have no clue what is going on. I really appreciate if someone can shed some light onto what is going on with my setup. I know there are multiple issues here so any help would be greatly appreciated. I really am excited about this arcade panel and this is really a set back for me. Thanks in advance

  24. MAME software list and HyperSpin

I thought I should leave another message here on the Android board, too. Even though the CMD method from @thatman84 does sort of work for me (it does for my Atari 5200 setup, but breaks again on the Bally Astrocade), the MAME Software list method works 100% of the time for me. So I came up with a little Windows Powershell Script (after only learning about it this week) that will read a MAME software list and a HyperSpin database and convert the game names it finds in them to MAME software list names, so you can use the ROMs with those names. It only does matching by CRC so it will possibly leave a few unchanged (actually A7800 doesn't match at all with the HyperSpin database, but RetroArch comes with it's own core for A7800 ) but it will give you a start without having to manually convert them all. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/files/file/13773-swlists-hs-convertps1/

This is a Windows Powershell script. It will take the information from a MAME software list and from a HyperSpin database XML and try to match the entries by the ROM CRC32 value. When it finds a match, it will update the information from the HyperSpin Database XML to the MAME software list name. When it doesn't find a match for a game in the HyperSpin data, it will log that event. When done, it will write the information to an output file of your choosing (be careful, you can choose to overwrite your original database ) You can configure the files either in the script itself using your favourite text editor, or you comment them out and the script will open Open and Save file dialogs, so you can pick them yourself at runtime. And you definitely need to open and edit it to match your MAME and HyperSpin config. And READ the Fine Comments I left in there about how it works and what it does Note: This is a Powershell script. On Windows 8.1 and above, Powershell comes preinstalled with your Windows. Windows 8 and below can install Powershell, by downloading it from Microsoft https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/mt173057.aspx But even on Windows 8.1 and 10 you will need to relax the the execution policy to allow to run those scripts locally. This can be done by starting an elevated (aka "Run as administrator") powershell and execute the following command: Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned Disclaimer: It did not break my system. It does not do any nasty stuff to your Windows environment. So you should be good, too. But you should always be careful and work on your backups!
