Hi guys, I think I may need some help getting going (MAME, RL HS)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I hate asking for help and wont normally do it until I am banging my head on the keyboard, I am ALMOST at that point lol

I have followed a video tut to get up and running (by Simply Austin), I am starting with MAME only using Hyperspin and Rocket Launcher (for now, other Emu's are available)

I have got all the paths in the right places, Rocket Launcher finds all my ROMS
I have had to disable 7Zip support for Mame or I get an extension error
I told Rocket Launcher that the default Front end is Hyperspin, set up the correct paths etc

I can launch the games in Mame (of course) and from Rocket Launcher  (ALT L)
On the video in Rocket Launcher his said launch with Hyperspin, but mine still stays with Rocket Launcher - not sure if that's a pointer to my problem?

I can run Hysperspin, it shows games (not sure if it reading my ROM SET, but I cannot press start to ermmm, START

I have checked all the paths and checked Rocket Launcher finds my ROMS, but it's like Hyperspin is not linking to Rocket Launcher properly

I am using Mame UI x64 with 0171 full Rom Set

Any thoughts on what I have missed please?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you are missing a step in Hyperhq. When you set up the mame wheel did you add the extensions. 7z,zip,Chd,rar?

ok, NO I din't do that - I didnt even see it :/

So the format there is .zip|.7z  or zip|7z without the dot?

Thanks

Sorry, just seen the info at the bottom of HyperHQ window, will try that

Since you are using hyperlaunch, you don't need to set any extensions at all in hyperhq. The extensions should already be set in RocketLauncherUI but check if that is missing. And do NOT add chd as an extension. That will cause issues.

Is there a way to check it is using Rocket Launcher then as I think it might not be? Putting the extensions in fixed it but....

I don't see Hyperspin on the menu in Rocket Launcher ?

There are a few things I see that are wrong. The biggest thing is that your log shows that HyperSpin is using HyperLaunch, not RocketLauncher so you missed something when connecting HS to RL. Like Dime mentioned, you don't need to set extensions in HyperHQ unless you're using the Roms Only filter, and if you did include extensions in HyperHQ they should be separated by commas without the dot (7z,zip). If you're using RL you don't need to have anything in the Executable box either.

Check to make sure that you're using HyperSpin 1.4 and in your HyperSpin/Settings/Settings.ini the Hyperlaunch_path points to your RocketLauncher.exe file.

Yeah, something's not right. It's definitely using HyperLaunch instead of RocketLauncher. What is the name of your HyperSpin folder?

Edit: Nevermind, I saw it in your log.

ok, I guess I will have to go through the video again and triple check my config :P

From here it all looks right but I am obviously missing a setting somewhere to tie HS to Rl :/

If you want to do a quick check you can watch Avar's guide in the tutorial section, it's only 8 minutes and covers everything to get HS and RL connected so that can save you some time. I would also verify that you're using HS 1.4, I've helped some people in the past who thought they were using it but something went wrong when they copied over the 1.4 exe so they were actually using 1.3 which isn't meant to work with RL. You should also make sure that you've made exceptions for HS and RL in any antivirus you're running as that can cause HS to default to using HyperLaunch.

all checked, paths renamed as per Austins recommendation = still no joy

Could it be the fact I am using MAME 0171 ?

If it's still using HyperLaunch, no. The emulator has nothing to do with that. The problem is with the setup of HS and RL itself somewhere. After you renamed your paths did you change them in your Settings.ini and your frontend paths in RLUI?

so, just tried MAME 0.168 off this site and it works once I changed the paths - so its my MAME UI ?

Will try it with Mame x64 0.171 and report back
