!! Renaming roms !!

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if any of the following will happen or is in the works of being completed?

-Dons FileRenamer (working with XMLs to rename ROMs and their subsequent child folders)

OR

-DAT files in the works where I can just use CLRMAMEPro if the DON Renamer Tool never gets done or is too buggy

ANYONE with NFO about this please let me know. This has to be the most frustrating part of Hyperspin (aside from shit just not working)

As far as I know the only reason why my games don't work is due to the naming convention. I know many have had this issue and is the #1 Dilemma

among Hyperspin Enthusiasts and for the Developers. I don't mind BETA testing, but let's get this ball rolling.

If worse comes to worse, we could have certain people working on certain consoles to rename everything by hand and create DATs from that.

I don't know exactly what is needed to make a FULL DAT for a system, but If we can work in numbers we can make something happen maybe.

In the words of LEROY JENKINS: "ALRIGHT CHUMPS!!!!!!!!!! LET'S DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY (uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)

JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a DAT for your Romset you can use Don's Hypertools to create an xml from that DAT.

Shit not working is all part of emulation. If you want shit to work but the original console. ;)

You or anyone else can help out with creating XML's for systems that aren't complete. They are being worked on constantly but take time. Contact a mod to help out.

gigapig,

DATs are what we need. SEGACD, Sega Dreamcast, and Sony Playstation are the biggest pains in my @$$hole(s) right now.

Anyway, I'm not saying anything new here... The XMLs are useless at the moment. If you have DC,SEGA CD or PSX correct naming

and arent telling people... you WILL goto HELL. just sayin' Somebody on here said

he did DreamCast all by hand..... MAKE A DAT FILE ya big fuzzy aPE!! wtf!!

If anyone has a good renaming method for PSX, Dreamcast, or Sega CD... please let me know what you used and or instructions on what you did (other then renaming them all painstaking and manual)

Sidenote: I will be compiling manually the names for Sony Playstation;

as it has alot of roms that need to be renamed...

if someone can do the naming scheme from M-Z that would really help

me and the community out. We can create a DAT once they've been

combined but im getting thru the B's now (holy, lots to do)

Why reinvent the wheel. All these Database files are being worked on. You will see Hyperspin ready releases being dumped onto PD. You will see posts on here from people like Nogarth sharing the new XML files for checking. You will see an entire Hyperspin Project section of this forum where people are already joining together to get this stuff done. I you look at earlier posts you will see a lot of talk about the first quarter of 2014 being a big time for all of this as a lot of things will start coming together. I know it is a lot to take in and not everyone is as nuts as me and reads all this guff but you will be surprised what has already been done.

The real problem is all the "late to the party" people missed out on the popular torrent sites that are now defunct that a lot of the XML's were based on. So these "late to the party" people are left scrounging for ROM/image scraps that have to be renamed.

I'm grateful Skribe has been dumping HS sets on PD. But unless he or someone else chips in and makes all HS named console stuff available, scrounging and renaming is the future for most people.

Dons rom renaming tool worked fine and dandy for my Sega CD and PSX collection. I noticed if there's too many files in the source folder it tends to crap out. It took over a week to rename my entire PSX collection but it did finish and did a wonderful job at that.

Sega CD collection took a few hours.

And lastly - back your shit up everyone. Some of this stuff is getting damned hard to find. :)

Thanks,

Some of the larger sets are getting posted at Pleasuredome with all the naming set according to the HS databases.

I've been renaming some of my sets recently and I've found that XYplorer's mass renaming functions can be quite handy. Probably saved hours using search/replace to fix region codes and regex to remove all the TOSEC disc ids. A little more is needed here and there but that cuts out a lot of the work. I haven't messed with cue files yet, but http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?22533-Yet-another-feature-rich-Hyperspin-rom-amp-media-manager should be able to fix 'em all once everything is named correctly.

Grep was originally a unix command that in the right hands was extremely useful.

PowerGREP is the windows version of it. I hear it is pretty sweet but still haven't had a play yet. Not hard to find www.powergrep.com :)

Hmm... ok... so... DAT files? We dont need to go from DAT to XML. We want to use CLRMAMEPRO like for MAME, but for PSX, Dreamcast, and Sega CD.

Any resolution? Don's Renamer is buggy as hell and is subject to mess all my roms up. CLRMAMEPRO is STABLE and WORKS GREAT. WE JUST NEED DAT FILES.

DAT FILES > UPLOADING the ENTIRE SET I ALREADY HAVE

DAT FILES > XML

CLRMAMEPRO > DONS tool

and secondly, how are the DATs made? Just it just take a full set to make them with some kinda gadget to convert the image nfo to a xml to a dat or img nfo to straight dat anyway?

The most reliable method of renaming your set is actually quite simple.

Step 1: CTRL+C

Step 2: CTRL+V

Step 3: IF "ROMs renamed" END ELSE GOTO Step1

:D

That sounds quite technical Polemi, can you do me a guide for that? ;)

Looks like No-Intro hasn't done a PSX set. So unless someone has already renamed a TOSEC/Redump pack and made a dat from that there's no easy renaming for the rest of us :vollkommenauf:

btw, i tried to follow (what im coining as the "Pole Method") but it seems a little complicated

Step 1: CTRL+C

Step 2: CTRL+V

Step 3: IF "ROMs renamed" END ELSE GOTO Step1

^^^ could you be a little more clear? explain

this as if i were 10 yrs old? :)

MERRY XMAS EVERYONE!!!!EVEN IF MY ROMSET IS MILES AWAY FROM

BEING CORRECTLY RENAMED!!!! :) <3

Maybe Don's Renamer Tool will be the answer in the future...

(what im coining as the "Pole Method")

That's not a bad name for it. Another good one might be the "Shaft Method".

I apologize in advance for the 990 people that was looking for a

resolution... by hand is the only answer if you want it done without errors.. on a more positive note, I will upload any sets that are hyperspin conventional to

the interwebs.

      Hello all,
Can anyone help me and point me in the right direction where I might be able to download myself an up to date
Commodore Amiga XML that is populated with the year, genre etc, of each game? I have tried Hyperlist and many other sites but I can't seem
to find anything. Many thanks in advance!

Some of stuff you can do
create hyperspin or nointro dat from rom folder
      create mamlist.xml from rom folder
copy roms listed in nointro or any supported xml\dat\xml format to desired rom folder
rename your roms from any supported xml\dat\txt file and copy them to desired folder
merge two supported xml\dat\txt file even info will be merged
copy rom media file with game list from compatible xml\dat\txt
      much more
      compatible format are
      nonintrodat.dat (parent\clone xml) or standard
      gamelist.xml
hyperspin.xml(there is custom one,you can generate one as hyperspin_retrofe.xml)
retrofe_include.txt (simple txt file with rom names)
mameinfo.dat (only works in extract function)
mamehistory.dat (only works in extract function)
      mamelist.xml

      So What is this?
convert from compatible xml\txt\dat game database format to xml\txt\dat game database,
extract story files from gamelist.xml mamhistory.dat or mameinfo.dat
combine or merge two compatible xml\txt\dat and get one file with updated games and info
copy rom listed in compatible xml\dat\txt from source rom folder to desired folder\rename and crc32 supported,crc32 work with zip and none zip files
scan and create xml\dat\txt from your roms folder,crc32 supported,crc32 work with zip and none zip files

      Requirement:
Tested on windows 10 x64,should run on any windows +7 os (might run on win xp but not tested)
you 'll need at least one xml\txt\dat compatible file, check below in Note section
      How to use
Simply choose the function from drop menu, click on input\output buttons, choose file type from filter drop menu in openfiledialog window, remember always provide the right file type, hyperspin need hyperspin file, nointro.dat need nointro dat file .......
      click doi it
      combine function explained:
this tool is created to merge info from compatible xml dat xml database format.xml based on name or crc tag,the result is xml\txt\dat file with updated info added roms name and info from both file
      Associate function explained:
associate function,input1 button should be any compatible xml\txt\dat,mediaroot should be the root folder of your rom media, example: nes media folder contain folders like snaps, title, manual, video snaps ... etc, this function will copy these media according to the name(or crc) in input1 source file
      Some Tips:
      Combine Nointro.dat+gamelist.xml=>resultfile saved as hyperspin_retrofe.xml
combine resultfile.xml+hyperspin.xml with rating tag=>final_result.xml saved as hyperspin_retrofe.xml
put the final_result.xml in RetroFE\meta\hyperlist rename it to your prefered system, make sure the name is matching the collection name in retrofe collectio dir
      delete meta.db from retrofe dir
      launch retrofe and have fun
      ]NOTE:
Important don't choose the wrong file always feed the right one check compatible file format above for more info
the combine function priorties the info from input1 button when using crc as comparation, that means if you have the same game but the name in the first is different from the second input file, the first will be considered
      how to get gamelist.xml
use scraper to get gamelist.xml for your prefered system(mame,sega,snes...) can be found https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/scraper
put scraper inside your roms folder,ru cmd or use bat(recommended) put these commands:

      scraper.exe -add_not_found -console_src="gdb" -use_filename=true -download_images=false -no_thumb
      PAUSE
now copy the generated gamelist.xml file from your rom folder to the program folder

      Hey Guys,
I'm rather new to Hyperspin but I have been sucessful in adding systems and roms for the most part. I have run into a problem recently in regards to database xml files. So when I'm on the homescreen where the consoles are on the wheel, when I click a certain console it will not load. I click and it goes black for  quick second and returns to the homescreen. Thats in indication that the database is present but it will not load the game list for some reason. I have the database xml in the appropriate folder as well as the roms, media and emulators installed. Still no sucess in loading the Playstation or Dreamcast consoles.
On another note there are instances where I'm able to click the colsole and it loads a few games on the list but not all. I have the roms installed in the appropriate folder but hyperspin is only displaying a few on the list. The database xml that is for the console has all the games listed but when I open the colsole in hypersin the list of games is limited to a few.
If someone has had a similar issue or could give assistance it would greatly be appreciated.
