Setup Neo Geo CD in MAME

Recommended Posts

Hi all, was trying to setup neogeo cd and use mame as the emulator as it seems like the best choice. The problem is that all the artwork and the database is not named according to mame. How do u guys go about setting up a system like this with all the artwork and a seperate wheel?

no problem sorry it didn't work I've never tried it myself just saw it in the download section one day.

you could just  make your own database with don's hyper tool's or usee hyper tools

Making the database shouldnt be to hard, but matching the artwork to the mame names seems like a big chore. Im sure there is an easier way to go about this, and I read all over the forums here that many people prefer mame for many systems over other emulators. Just wondering how they set that up.

Most people have their roms matching the naming convention in the official database, not the MAME software list, so all the media just works. You can stick to the software list naming if you wish, but you'll have to rename all the media instead. Phulshof generates databases based on the software lists that I can point you to if that's the way you want to go to save you from having to create the db yourself.

Either way you'll have to rename something but there are tools here, such as the Rename Roms app in Don's Tools, that will automate some of the renaming for you instead of having to do it manually.

If I keep the naming the same as the official database will mame still launch the games?

I wasn't to sure what you were trying to do but what agent 47 suggested would be the better way to go. Matching your roms to the hyperspin database is the best way to go. You won't have to rename as much.

Yes mame will play your games fine if you rename them.

Yup, it just uses a slightly different syntax. Instead of the software list cli:

mame64 neocdz mslug

it uses

mame64 neocdz -cdrm %romFile%

You can find the full cd set as part of the software list set at PD. No need to hunt for them; you just need to rename the art. Personally I'd love to see full art sets for the MAME software lists.

If you're using RL you don't have to do anything other than set mame as the emulator and make sure to set your bios path in the module settings assuming you're using MAME 0.162 or newer.

The cue file and the archive file if zip/7z have to match whichever database you're using.

I don't see why not. MAME usually isn't too picky when it comes to consoles. It's the home computers where it gets a tad tricky.
