Famicom Disk System vs Nintendo Famicom

Recommended Posts

I tried clarifying this through wikipedia but am still unsure what these 2 systems are. From what I can tell based on Rom names, the xml file in hyperlist and artwork names here is what I came up with:

From what I can gather Famicom Disk System is all Japanese games(in title and probably language) based on the no-intro rom set(not sure if this system is Nintendo equivalent or a pre-curser to the Nintendo Equivalent), and the Nintendo Famicom appears to be Japanese Famicom(Nintendo Equivalent) with Roms that sometimes have english names and are translated into english(from what I can gather from the xml).

All artwork, themes and videos appear to be available for the Famicom Disk System but that system is for some reason missing a xml file??? so that essentially makes all that stuff worthless which seems odd, meanwhile there is a nice XML for a system(nintendo famicom) for which I have no idea what the roms are, and there is no artwork available for this system either. This just doesn't add up. Could anybody please clarify this for me, thanks!!

The Famicom is the Japanese NES that played cartridges. The Famicom Disk System was a floppy drive add on for the Famicom. It played 3.5 " floppy disks that had NES games on them.Yes the piracy was out of control in Japan which is why it never got a US or World release

Lots of members have custom XML's for FDS.Make your own with hyperrom2XML.Other then that we cant really discuss roms here.Google is your friend

Just found a Japanese site, has cart scans of the Famicom Disk System....and much much more...it does have a water mark though when you zoom up on the large image...I am not sure if there is a work-around to remove the watermark?

http://www.otakaraou.com/index.php/product-list/42?page=1

There are many other system carts on the site too...might be kool to update the japanese sets we have here....

using google translator, it shows the game titles in english..makes it easy to identify the games XD

Here is a site that doesn't have watermarks, but the images are not very large...they make nice thumbnails though

Emumovies just did a big update that includes MOST of the famicom videos that are in the official database (they are in the NES section on their FTP) but there are still a few dozen videos missing (ballblazer and bird week for example). I haven't seen any wheel art or a main menu video. I made my own main menu video but it's pretty low quality and I plan on redoing it when I get time.

I downloaded the videos from emumovies in the nintendo entertainment system section, these match the famicom games I have, but none of the famicom disk system games have videos?

Edit: ugh, I didn't realize the above poster necroed this topic, forgot to check the date. He also linked a video from that clown who sells Hyperspin drives. Way to go. Haha that clip contains all my wheels, themes and even vids for Super Fam. Where are my royalty checks if he's selling this stuff? ;)

I have a sneaky question...how do you switch sides inside hyperspin? I know it´s SHIFT+B but have you somehow made a shortcut for it when using joysticks or?

If you are using Retroarch I think you press 'Q' to switch sides if I'm not mistaken. Just map that to any button on your gamepad with xpadder
