Ok guys been working on this for a while, thought I would put out the 1.0 while I've got the chance... ...Presenting genre backgrounds and wheels for MAME/Arcade! Here is a collection of wheels and backgrounds in the style of my SNES and Mega Drive/Genesis packs. Unlike those packs, there are no included xmls with this pack as I have spent hours hand sorting my genres in a specific and unique way that will not match the average user 1 to 1. Unfortunately what this means is you are going to have to get your hands a bit dirty this time to make this pack work for you, the backgrounds and wheels are provided and organised, but you are going to need to do some renaming in order to suite the images to your xml files. Also you may find there are certain publisher or specific genre wheels that don't have included backgrounds or wheels here. The good news is there is a large selection to find something appropriate to complete your own setup, there are multiple images for just about every genre and I HEAVILY ENCOURAGE you to go through and rename the images you like, rather than the defaults I have selected. If your not sure what is involved in setting this up check out @ninja2bceen 's excellent tutorial video on genres. I take no credit for any of the background images, i've merely edited existing images that are out there to suit. I have created a few of the wheels from scratch, and given some existing ones a face-lift. There's a fair few hours of work here and I hope it shows. When I have some time there is a chance I will come back to this to increase it's scope and rename the images to match the standard naming conventions so it can be a little bit more plug and play. As usual i've included the default image for the border so as people can create their own backgrounds. I've also included my genre.xml which is unlikely to suit you directly but might help as a starting point. If anything seems incorrect, or you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments. Enjoy! A few resources: Check this thread for links to phulsofs xml packs. --------------------------------------------------- Check this great tutorial for using Romlister to create your own genres: https://forums.libretro.com/t/howto-generate-pretty-curated-mame-playlists-the-easy-ish-way/5529 --------------------------------------------------- Here is @SupraKarma's Mame pack, it contains wheels for all occasions and was the base for this pack, anything not included here you should find there. Also check here for the 'Base pack' It may be more recent and complete I'm not sure. --------------------------------------------------- Here are my other genre packs for SNES and Mega drive/Genesis

Here's a MAME database I painstakingly put together. Its based on MAME 0.185, includes all games and CHD based games with the following rules applied. No adult games No Gun games No Mahjong or casino games No duplicates (as close as I could get - kept newest version possible) No non-US games (unless it does not have a US clone) What you're left with is a set of around 2600 unique, playable games by joystick, spinner or trackball. Enjoy!

HyperSpin MAME Renamer is a Windows application that will take a HyperSpin XML file, a MAME softlist XML file, a folder containing ROMs, and multiple artwork folders. It will then use this information to rename the ROMs and artwork files so that they correspond to the MAME short name. The application works in two stages. When you have entered your file/folder details it will process the data in the two XML files and attempt to automatically map the data. Various options for how data should be mapped are available: Automatically map games based on CRC values - When a game has the same CRC value in the HyperSpin database and the MAME XML file then it will be considered a match. Automatically map games where the name is an exact match (excluding ROM tags) - If a game cannot be matched by CRC then it will perform a fuzzy name search. If this option is selected then any games with the same name, apart from ROM tags such as (Europe), (USA) etc. will be considered a match. Automatically select the best name where no exact match is available - If a game cannot be matched by CRC or exact name then the best match will be automatically selected. This option is off by default. You will be able to review the mappings on the "Mappings" tab, as well as manually amend the mappings by using the drop-down in the "Map To" column. This games listed in the drop-down are ordered by how close the names match. Note that when a game was matched by CRC only that game will appear in the list since we can be certain we have the right game and therefore don't need to do the fuzzy name search. Once you are happy with the mappings, click the "Rename" button to proceed. The application will then use the mappings to rename the files. Optionally, the application can also verify that the ROM files match the CRC values in the MAME XML file as part of this process. The files will be written to the output folder in the following structure: HyperSpin XML file.xml - A copy of the HyperSpin database file, with the names updated to use the MAME short names and the CRC values updated to those expected by MAME. - Roms - The ROMs folder will contain the renamed ROMs. These will be automatically put into .zip files so that they can be used with MAME. - Artwork - This folder will contain sub-folders for each artwork folder you selected. The names of the sub-folders will match the names of the input artwork folders e.g. if you selected C:\Users\Me\Downloads\Artwork4 then you will get a sub-folder called "Artwork4" Source code to the application is available here: https://github.com/ChrisSimpson/Hyperspin-MAME-Renamer

This is a Windows Powershell script. It will take the information from a MAME software list and from a HyperSpin database XML and try to match the entries by the ROM CRC32 value. When it finds a match, it will update the information from the HyperSpin Database XML to the MAME software list name. When it doesn't find a match for a game in the HyperSpin data, it will log that event. When done, it will write the information to an output file of your choosing (be careful, you can choose to overwrite your original database ) You can configure the files either in the script itself using your favourite text editor, or you comment them out and the script will open Open and Save file dialogs, so you can pick them yourself at runtime. And you definitely need to open and edit it to match your MAME and HyperSpin config. And READ the Fine Comments I left in there about how it works and what it does Note: This is a Powershell script. On Windows 8.1 and above, Powershell comes preinstalled with your Windows. Windows 8 and below can install Powershell, by downloading it from Microsoft https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/mt173057.aspx But even on Windows 8.1 and 10 you will need to relax the the execution policy to allow to run those scripts locally. This can be done by starting an elevated (aka "Run as administrator") powershell and execute the following command: Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned Disclaimer: It did not break my system. It does not do any nasty stuff to your Windows environment. So you should be good, too. But you should always be careful and work on your backups!
