Solved! HyperSpin Wheel Game Themes Reverting to Text - Quick Solution

Hey All

I saw a lot of posts about HyperSpin losing game wheel artwork for games when you start spinning the wheel.

As some of you may have researched already, this is caused when the XML file, the artwork file and the ROM don't match with upper and lower case letters. A good example of this is say "Frogger".

The XML list will show "frogger". The ROM name is "frogger.zip". The wheel art file is named as "Frogger.png" - even this minor case letter difference on the PNG file will cause the wheel theme to display ONCE and then disappear when you start moving the wheel.

Now, there are a lot of these artwork files that don't match as they have capital letters, and so what will happen is that on spinning you will see themes revert to text.

Solution:

I found the best solution is to rename the files in your wheel simply and quickly by using "Rename Master" a free utility that can change files names and extensions based on your variables. http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/108/

To change the wheel file names, simply:

1) Load Rename Master and on the right hand side of the navigation, locate your folder with your artwork. In my case I am changing my MAME artwork so it will be HyperSpin > Media > MAME > Images > Wheel

2) To view the files, make sure the "file" tab is selected at the bottom of the screen and they should all become visible.

3) On the left hand side, click on [06] "Find and Replace".

4) To the right of the "Find and Replace" dropdown there is a text field. Start here by putting in a capital "A". Underneath here where it says "with" simply put a lower case "a".

5) To be sure you don't change anything unnecessarily, in the "name or extension", change to "name".

6) Now at the top of the left hand pane, you can preview the rename or just click "rename" to rename the file. You should see all your files being checked and sorted, and you may need to click "rename" a few times to get the program to highlight the A's in your list. I found that in most cases after the first batch of letters it took about 3-4 presses of "rename" for the program to actually do the renaming.

7) If you wish, you can actually scroll down the right hand pane to see what has been ticked and what the program is going to change for you.

8) If you go wrong, there is a very handy unlimited "undo" button. I sometimes clicked this just to see what had been changed without actually undoing anything.

9) Go through your files letter by letter, which will take you about 10-15 minutes.

When you have finished, DON'T close the program. Instead load HyperSpin and check your wheel themes remain intact when you spin and do not default to text! If you are satisfied with the changes, THEN close the rename program. (Closing before you have checked means you lose any "undo" capability)

I hope this mini tutorial helps... in fact Rename Master is a very handy utility to keep....

Cheers
