Unusual darker screen and jagged font after changing PCs

Hi guys, I recently installed HyperSpin on an old computer my mate gave me and I noticed immediately that even though I am using my usual monitor, the screen looked darker than my other pc and also that text looks really jagged around the edges. For example, the white exit font of HS, where it says "would you like to exit? yes no" looks like rubbish instead of smooth like before.

 

I know this isn't directly HS related, but if somebody has any idea how to fix this, I'd greatly appreciate it as I am at my wit's end. I've tried looking for a solution myself for hours, but no luck.

 

I am thinking that maybe it's a video card driver issue, so I might update the drivers of the card, but the drivers are only a few months old.

 

For reference the computer is:

 

i5 3470 3.2ghz

4gb ram

GeForce GTX 560 1gb

LCD monitor connected with DVI cable

It has a fresh install of Windows XP Professional 32bit with service pack 3

have you checked the basics like drivers are up to date and the graphics settings?

Yeah my next step is updating the drivers but I'm wary to do it because I remember having to rollback drivers in order to get a particular emulator to run on my previous pc. But I suppose I have to. The video card drivers a from May 2015 though so, not that out of date.
