HS navigation working great but won't launch a game

Greetings,

I am a noob to HS and gaming for that matter but have been a network engineer for roughly 25 years and am very comfortable with Windows and networking.  I've been lassoed into assisting a neighbor with his new hobby - he has compiled a bunch of components (PC Herculean motherboard (Intel chipsets), 8T external HD, old but beautifully made-over game console, very impressive 4 player joystick and button UI panel etc you get the picture) one of which is the Ultimark iPAC4 keyboard encoder which he couldn't seem to get working.  I was able to assist him in getting the keyboard encoder up and talking to the PC and I might add that he procured the 8Tb drive preloaded with HS, RocketLauncher, emulators and roms.  At some point along the way I was reading and making configuration changes within HS and RL converting input methods from Joystick to iPAC/Keyboard and have obviously made HS mad because now it won't launch a game.  I'm feeling very responsible for breaking my neighbors HS install (which I must say is a very cool interface) which was pre populated with fades and videos and logos etc and was working, launched games, for a short time.  I've attached my HS log.txt file but I'm not hopeful that it will assist in this diagnosis as the Launch Command Line is value can be copied and pasted into a Windows Run dialogue and the game launches.  So it looks to me as though HS is building a good command but for whatever reason isn't actually issuing the command or isn't engaging a known or valid shell.  Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to give this back to my neighbor functioning.

I need to add too that I can launch any game by going into RL | choose a system | click Games menu | click game list enumerator - blue icon| choose a game and click the rocket icon to launch...works fine but not nearly as intuitive and cool as MS wheels.

Thanks in advance

There's a surprise - another preconfigured drive that doesn't work.

So, before we try to help you - you have to know that there is absolutely no official support for preconfigured drives here.  You are solely relying on the good nature of the community members.  Everything about HyperSpin and RocketLauncher is, and always will be free.  That includes all software, art and support.  Whoever sold the drive has ripped you off, plain and simple.  I'm currently in the process of helping another new member with a drive he bought - and it was an absolute state.  So much so, that nothing would ever have worked without significant fixing - in fact that it would actually have been easier to learn how HS/RL work and setup from scratch.  You have to also understand, that wiping the drive and starting from scratch might actually be the easiest way to get this sorted.

So, that aside - detail exactly what happens from launching HS to selecting a game.  If there are error screen, capture them and post here.  We need as much information as possible to figure this out.  Making changes to the input configuration should not have caused this problem.

We also need a RockerLauncher log - open RLUI, set logging to troubleshooting and attempt to launch a game from RLUI.  Post the log.

I'm totally down with wiping the OS and reinstalling Windows + fresh HS/RL.  I always strive to make Windows run as lean as possible and dude had all kinds of stupid autolaunch managers, classic windows shell TSRs etc running in the background and my being new to HS/RL I didn't know what was needed.  So I started reading up and found a video on doing basic HS/RL install and discovered HS/RL quite straight forward and basic and performed a bare-bones install on a USB stick of my own.  That said I have to give "prebuilt HS/RL Windows cobbler dude" some credit because now that I have my bare-bones HS/RL on my flash drive and have learned what it takes to get an emulator plugged in with roms, fades, logos, videos, wheels etc - my hat is tipped to "prebuilt HS/RL Windows cobbler dude".

So enough about platform philosophies, I'm interested in starting from scratch with a lean and mean config, however it looks daunting (perhaps months/years of work...prebuilt drive is 8T with 1T free...I think he may have every game on the planet on this drive) to get my bare-bones beautified to the point that WindowsCobbler has his.  Are you able/willing to assist me in this journey through Mirkwood?  I haven't yet but plan on watching all the tutorial videos.  I feel like I should be able to utilize WindowsCobbler's videos, logos and fade files and folders as sources.  I don't think I'd do a mass copy but rather as I add systems, emulators and roms I would parse his inventory and copy only the videos, logos etc. which pertain to the systems, emulators and roms that I add one at a time.  This way I can control file system organization and keep things tidy.  Again I'm a bit worried about the time investment - perhaps you can speak to this concern?  I'm not looking for work - If I could get a quick fix to this issue with WC's install and get it launching games with WC's preload...I'd do it - but if you're saying that diagnosing my problem might take a significant amount of time that may not be successful in the end, then I'll start rebuilding.

Thanks for your response

So just keep all the roms on the pre made drive, and ditch the rest of the setup and start again.

And really - whoever made the drive needs no celebration what so ever.  They are making money by selling a crap setup of something that is free anyway.
