Baffled by this weird anomaly... Escape is now pausing HyperSpin instead of exiting..

I've just installed Windows 7 64-bit onto my PC. HyperSpin had been working perfectly on XP prior to this...

When I launch HyperSpin, even after a fresh install of both Windows 7 AND HyperSpin, it appears to run fine...

However, when I press enter on the keyboard, HyperSpin just resets itself back to the main wheel, and if I try to exit HyperSpin, using the Escape key, it pauses HyperSpin. Pressing Esape again, resumes it!

This has completely baffled me, so much so, that i even reinstalled windows thinking there was a problem with the keyboard drivers...

EVERYTHING is default. I have just extracted the HyperSpin install .rar to a folder on the C: so as not to confuse anyting, but it still is acting very weird. The only thing attached to the computer is a keyboard, mouse and monitor.

I do not know what is happening. I haven't touched the controls inside HyperHQ and everything is default as I said above...

Please, someone... for the love of God, give me a solution for this!!!

I've tried swapping out the keyboard and mouse, but it is the same result. Even when I manually reassign a different key to the exit key in the controls section of HyperHQ, the same thing happens, ie. the exit key will pause HyperSpin and a second press will resume it. The only way to exit HS is to Alt-Ctrl-Del...

Stumped!

I've even tried ripping the install folder onto my laptop, and it works perfectly! It is also running Windows 7 64-bit...

Update:

Problem is solved. When I installed Windows 7, the first thing I did was try to launch HyperSpin. I didn't install any of the drivers that were exclamation-marked out in device manager. Incidentally, the only one was my sound card. I didn't think it would make any difference, but it seems like it didn't like it too much...

I installed my sound card drivers and hey presto!! Everything is working normally... Now to make up for those lost 3 hours!

It's a weird bug, and maybe someone should look into it...

Now it's time to tinker!!

Thanks for posting your solution, I had nearly the same problem.

I had hyperspin running fine, and then the same symptoms you reported showed up in my system. After reading about your problem with drivers, I checked mine out. I found that windows update failed while updating my soundcard drivers.

After rolling back the soundcard drivers everything worked again.

Thanks,

Had the same problem that I eventually figured out, probably could have figured it out sooner had I seen this thread.

My sound drivers were fine but I didn't have any speakers plugged in. The second I hooked up speakers, whether they were turned on or not, it works perfect.

I know it's an old thread but figured I'd give a slightly different solution in case someone finds this thread with the same problem.

For me, the start button and various other buttons were not functioning. As soon as I plugged in speakers, everything worked great! o_0
