Connecting Light Gun to Mame

2 Questions:

1) I'm trying to launch the MAME .170 x64 NoNag+HiScore+Autofire+DirectInput.exe file from native Windows Explorer and receive a Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator has stopped working message yet I can run the game from RocketLauncher UI without error.  Please help me understand how RLUI can run the emulator but I can't within native windows.  Is this because the .ahk files are making the necessary tweaks to the .ini files to allow it to run?

2) I'm trying to follow a TID on how to set the lightgun X and Y axis settings within the MAME emulator but feel its an impossibility to get a perfect horizontal movement for the X axis and a perfect vertical movement on the Y axis...the mame controller configurator is recording movement on both x and y.  So I'd like to simply edit the appropriate .ini file but don't know which .ini file is used by mame to house controller settings.  I found a controllers.ini file in the emulators\mame folder but it doesn't house the actual settings I'm using so it makes me thing that it's not the one being used.

Really needing some architecture understanding here if anyone is willing to provide it.

Thanks for a great product and assistance.

When you examine MAME in your RLUI Global Emulators tab, is it pointing to the exact same exe you're trying to open?

As for the light gun, if you're using Ultimarc AimTrak or similar, you can configure it outside of MAME. Also, it hard to make it exactly perfect on account of the position relative to the sensor factoring so heavily. Bliss-Box is currently prototyping a lightgun attachment that will let us use actual, proper lightgun mechanics on modern displays but it'll be a bit before it's available.
