RocketLauncher - adding roms, mixed feelings, halp!

Hello there,

I need some help. I'm following along with Simply Austin's Tutorials on YT....

A problem I'm having is that as I'm continuing to hand select and download the roms I want and adding them to their respective rom folders... I'm returning to Hyperlaunch to scan for them and the following has occurred;

- Sega Genesis automatically found all 174 of my games in the first scan, but as I go to add new games, they don't populate into the list. Continues to say 174, no additional roms being added after the scan. My missing list has also completely disappeared?

- Nintendo did not find ANY of my games, after researching some troubleshooting I had to hand re-name them to match what was shown to me on the missing list, how is this completely in contrast of my Genesis uploading experience? I downloaded the roms from the same source.

And if that doesn't top it all off, despite the great conquest of getting some of the roms to turn green in HyperLaunch, and despite me being able to drag n drop the roms onto their emulators with perfect bootups, and also I'm able to select and boot from rocketlauncher what does show up in the list, however when trying to launch the games from Hyperspin it says something about "Missing rom extension in .ini".

One would think that all you'd need to do is set the path to the .exe of your emulator and then the rom path and then with the beautiful grace of programming it would have all the roms load in without having to dilly dally, but of course that would just be too easy wouldn't it :unknown:

I'm close to the edge, please help!

Thanks in advance

Thanks Agent for the help.

So I'm following Simply Austin tutorials, and I did properly install Rocketlauncher and it's working well as far as I can tell, I placed a shortcut in my root folder of Hyperspin for easy access just like he says. I also have the HyperLaunch program as well as the HyperHQ... should I get rid of the HyperLaunch to not confuse it?

I guess I just don't get it, because I downloaded roms from the exact same site for genesis and nintendo, when I did a rom scan for genesis it loaded all of them no problem, every single one out of the 174 I downloaded, and many of them have strange appended letters like (8)[!], (J)_[a1], (REV_00)_(JUE)_[!], but the scan still found every one of them. And then the NES games get scanned and not one gets found due to naming conventions? How could that be? This feature seems to be inconsistent unless I'm missing something. Why didn't I have to one by one change all the Sega genesis rom titles?

Is there a solid source for getting games that are named the way they  are supposed to be? This is going to be a nightmare moving forward :(

And for rarer or more odd games not in the database list for that system, I'm guessing I just manually add them, but then of course they're not going to have any emu movie or anything, is there any tutorial on how to add an outside-the-database game along with movie and cart, logo and stuff like that?

What happens if I don't want to use all the games in the database? When downloading the emumovies pack for a system, they will still display inside of HyperSpin even though I haven't added the rom? Or will it intelligently only show the rom names and videos etc that correspond to what's activated in the database?

Thanks for all the help, I feel like I'm so close yet so far away :( appreciate it big time!

BTW here is my build if you're interested in seeing my setup :) Very proud of it! I worked hard on setting it up, replaced the front ports to accept NES controllers but they are adapters to USB to motherboard headers! It's totally sweet! I thought I'd be at the home stretch now with adding in the hyperspin stuff but it seems now I have another huge project on my hands lol

Thank you Agent for answering every concern.

I think in the long run, while I had preferred the idea of having a bunch of awesome hand selected roms of my favorites, the best move might just be to go and get hyperspin ready sets and let it function as default to avoid over complicating this. Appreciate all these recommendations, before I redo my roms I'm going to take a look at that tut and see if the Default Plugin is properly set.

One last question, do the database lists.. when you do a scan, it doesn't overwrite them or anything right? Like I don't have to worry about setting the system xml lists back to a default state right? Those always stay the same, they don't get overwritten when scanning with RL, they just reference it? I'm just worried I might have messed up the lists some how with all my tinkering. I never went into the lists themselves just kept scanning and trying different paths and emulators etc.

You rock! Thanks again!

Default plugin was set to RocketLauncher. I've changed it to HyperSpin.

Should Default Frontend Path be the RocketLauncher.exe or the HyperSpin.exe?

I feel like I'm getting somewhere....

Thanks agent, just found the xml database... and what I'm realizing is that sega genesis has a huge list, but checking into my xml of my current sega genesis list, it only lists out the 174 games that I downloaded.... so somehow it DID overwrite my xml list showing me only what I've downloaded.... no idea how I managed to do this.

I'm going to delete all my roms and start over with properly named rom packs (hopefully if I can find them).

Should I just download the latest sega genesis xml list and replace my weird 174 list? I feel like I know this answer haha but let me know if you have any thoughts / concerns with how this could have happened!

Cheers
