Problems on setup

I hope I am not beating a dead horse here but I will go ahead anyway. I am currently on step 2 of the install process. I have hyperspin and rocketlauncher set-up and running. I watched the tutorial video from the archivist on emulators install quite a few times. I have computers side by side while doing this. I am having trouble with nestopia. I followed the link and the instructions provided. However, when I try to open the emulator from the folder to test it, I receive the following error code. "The program can't start because d3dx9_43.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I tried reinstalling several times only to receive the same error code. As I said, I have side by side computers here, watching the tutorial and installing as I go. I cannot seem to figure this out. In addition, I seem to be missing several file folders that are present in the tutorial video. There was a brief thread on YouTube but ultimately it ended without a confirmation of a resolution. Any help is greatly appreciated. Perhaps there is a better emulator that you all know of? Or perhaps I just need a quick fix? Thank you for your help

@CAS0311 If I remember correctly I believe the additional folders to which you're referring will populate automatically for you on launch.

As far as emulators go, the blurb from the tuts is good advice in that NonMAME is a useful guide. A lot of people like to run RA/MAME for everything but ultimately you do have options.

Do either of you have a preference on an NES emulator? To tell you the truth, as far as set-up goes, I built a computer from scratch in order to run the older systems. pretty much up to N64 (not quite sure if I even want that). I can always add more RAM if I want to go to the PS and computer stuff. My biggest interest is the MAME. I used to go to the Arcade just about every Saturday and play arcades for years. For 5 dollars I was able to hang out there for hours! MK2 was about the end of the Arcade experience as far as Genre goes.

Sorry got off topic a bit. I have a bunch of NES ROMS, so I figured I would set that up first and get it all squared away. Should help me get a better understanding of the Hyperspin system.  P.S. You just cant beat the wheel on this program. I love this front end.

I don't personally use RA for anything right now but they've impressed me lately as it's a convenient solution for multiple systems and they seem to be very kind and receptive when it comes to support. For NES in my setup I use exactly what you see in the vid, which is basically the same as the RA Nestopia core I believe. RetroArch does seem like the popular answer but I'm still happy with standalone emulators.

Glad you're liking the FE so far! Working hard to make some improvements right now. One thing to consider that I don't rly get into until the later videos: is your display 4:3 or 16:9?

Forgive me, but I hear you reference "standalone emulators," quite often. What does this mean? Are you not running the emulator inside Hyperspin? Thank you for your quick responses. Like I said earlier I am quite new to this side of gaming. I found Raspberry pi great, but wanted more control. I am quite impressed but also confused by all of this new language. :)  I am a Paramedic by trade, so my base is in physical sciences not computers. Trying to learn as I go. I have a pretty good understanding but still need help.

Cool we're in the process of making it a lot more 16:9 friendly right now so you'll have that too look forward to on top of what's already converted :D

By standalone I basically just mean non-RetroArch. RA essentially runs a wide variety emulators through its "cores" that carry out the same function as each individual emulator does on its own. RA provides some additional shader options and other features so it's definitely worth looking into and RA has great value as an emu option.

IDK, this might be out of my league. I have no emulators on my list. When I click on "Global," nothing comes up. I have a list of systems but when I click on the system there is nothing there. Did you load all of those emulators separately?

Do you have extensions hidden in Windows? If so, you probably accidently renamed "Global Emulators (Example).ini" to "Global Emulators.ini.ini." You'll wanna show extensions in Windows from now on and fix that and it should work fine.

Nothing happens in the official tutorial series without the user seeing it except mebbe one instance of me running a program auto-generating folders before I talked about running the program.
