THRobinson Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Still (slowly) playing around with HyperSpin. Was playing with LaunchBox as well, but through forum chats, finding that I may be out of luck with a lot of the themes because designed for 16:9 and don't resize well for 4:3. I went for a 4:3 Samsung 204B 1600x1200 5ms monitor... mainly because was cheaper and since 99% of the games I have are 4:3 I figured I'd go that route... didn't think about themes. How's HyperSpin for 4:3? Problem with LB is I can't test any out without buying a membership, and the theme downloads often don't mention if they work 4:3 or not so, hate to pay and not like anything available. I believe it's the same for HS though still very new to HS... but I do like some of the stuff I see online with (I think it's called) wheels? I just don't want to get stuck with something plain and boring. I'm all about 'flashy'. Avar Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 No, all HS themes come in 4:3 variety while some have been converted to 16:9. Except for the most generic of themes, there always needs to be two different versions in order to properly take advantage of the canvas space. Themes are always in either the 4:3 or 16:9 category here or marked as such.
THRobinson Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 Nice... I was surprised when I was told that LB was mainly 16:9 and some just look awful down-scaled. Especially given that I'm sure many people had the same logic as me... build an arcade cabinet to look like and play old games, so, get a 4:3 monitor. On a side note, those Samsung 204B's look really good... once fixed. Bought a pair for $25CAD, both had the same power-on issues, takes 6min to get an image on the screen and very dim. Went to Digi-Key, bought $20CAD worth of new capacitors (eBay has kits but missing the large capacitor) and ya... I have no soldering skills apart from wires, did them both in an afternoon and both look amazing. Keeping one I think as a backup, though if this arcade build turns out well, I suspect at least one of my nieces/nephews will want a bar-top built.
