Model 2 wrecks HS after returning

Hey everyone, hope you're all well.

I'm having a pretty frustrating issue with the Sega Model 2 Emulator in Hyperspin 1.4 on Windows 8.1 - the issue is that, I run a 16:9 screen but don't like the streched image in fullscreen, so I have the M2 set up to run at 1600x1200 for a  proper 4:3 ratio.

In Hyperspin (with Rocketlauncher) all of my M2 games load up and launch in 4:3 perfectly, they play fine... the problem is when I hit ESC or even Alt+F4 to return back to the HS game wheel, what happens is that the screen just goes black, and I can now only hear the audio for the HS wheel in the background. The normal windows mouse cursor is the only thing visible when this happens. If I navigate to the exit menu and exit (by memory, because I can't see anything) then Hyperspin closes, the screen remains black, but the taskbar pops up at the bottom of the screen and  the system tray reveals that Rocketlauncher is still running. Once I kill RL, (either from the tray or by using the task manager), THEN the normal screen image returns.

This ONLY happens however if I have the emulator set to run at a different resolution. If I allow it to stretch the image to 16:9, then this problem doesn't happen, lol.

Any ideas?

Thanks, I appreciate any time and input :)
