Esc no longer working in emulation

So I have had my Hyperspin setup working for awhile. Yesterday I hooked up a new spinner and enabled it and that was fine, so I don't know if this was related at all or not.

The system settings were suddenly changed in HyperHQ. 

1. The intro video and stop intro on keypress were unchecked

2. The Controls tab was completely blanked. 

3. I was no longer able to exit any game. 

 

I fixed the first two issues just by changing them back. However issue 3 I can not fix. When I am in the main menus Esc works just as it should, I can go into a wheel like mame, look around, hit Esc and it takes me back out to main menu. I can hit Esc in the main menu and it brings up the exit hyperspin screen and I can exit just fine. 

However once I select a game to play the Esc key no longer works. The only way for me to get out of the game is to alt+tab and kill the emulator manually. What am I missing?
