The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Hello,

I'm not new to emulation but still an apprentice with dabbling in hyperspin. I am getting the same error message when dealing with a specific emulator (in my case the dreamcast). Whenever I startup Hyperspin I get the following error message:

"Could not locate a section called [Z:\Hyperspin\Emulators\Dreamcast\nullDC_Win32_Release-NoTrace.exe] in your Global Emulators.ini or Sega Dreamcast\Emulators.ini"

From my limited knowledge that tells me that I'm not properly mapped of where these two .ini files are looking to or something is amiss in the spacing/spelling of the emulator. I go back to basics and first ensure that the entire emulator works on it's own. I startup the emulator on it's own (negating hyperspin entirely), ensuring the rom path is correct (check), the gamepad is properly mapped using xpadder (check) then I play a few games to test it out (check). Then I go to HyperlaunchHQ and check those settings. The emulators tab of hyperlaunchHQ is where I head to first. Both the rom path and default emulator path are correct (I literally copy them from windows explorer when found). While still on the Emulators tab of HyperHQ I click the + sign under "Current Emulator List for the Selection System:" I input all the necessary data as need be then close out the window. I then head over the modules tab of hyperlaunch, again everything pans out. Just for funnsies I check the Keymapper tab of Hyperlaunch and map the xpadder profiles over correctly.

Still I triple check each of the .ini files and each of them are mapping/pointed in the right direction and launch hyperspin once more, back to the emulator and try to play a game I know works, still the same error message. Any idea what I could be missing at all? I've tried comparing notes between working emulators and this emulator and the settings for any of the working emulators and this one match up and still I get the same damned message.

*** UPDATE ***

I renamed the enormously long executable file from nullDC_Win32_Rele ase-NoTrace.exe to simply nulldc.exe . I no longer have the issue within Hyperspin of that error message. Problem I am having now is that I can only play games using the emulator only (negating Hyperspin entirely) or using simple Hyperlaunch and double-clicking the specific rom I wish to play. Whenever I try to play a rom from this emulator I am not getting this error message: "Cannot find Rom "rom name," in any Rom_Paths provided: "Z:\Hyperspin\Emulators\Dreamcast\Game" with any provided Rom_Extension: "gdi|cue|cdi|chd" Now I check the mapping and that is perfectly spot on, I can only guess that the current issue is that whatever the (pardon the terms, I'm shooting from the hip here) rom wheel within hyperspin is listing as the game is not matching up with the actual rom file names. Now to scurry off and figure out how to find that list and then to modify it to what my rom files are actually named..... Any ideas would be helpful

It could be that you just need to add |zip|7z to your global emulator in HyperlaunchHQ if your roms are compressed. Make sure you also have 7z enabled if this is the case. If not, you should just use Don's tools, or clrmamepro to rename your set.

Tried using Don's Rom renamer, was unable to get it work (although I am unaware as to how it successfully does work). Am cross-referencing the list of rom names from the renamer app and literally hand-jamming in usable names from my current rom's file names. Once I finish this, I have to remember where the master rom listing is so that my rom wheel shows only roms I actually have and not every single rom available. No point in showing off roms you cannot play, right? I appreciate the insight though, it may prove fruitful for me later as I know at least one of my emulators works specifically with .zip files.

Let's get down to basics. Let's say I wanted to play a gamecube game: Pikmin. The first thing I want to do is make sure that it works outside of hyperspin. The second thing I want to do is note the extensions on both my compressed and uncompressed files. So lets say I have a Pikmin (USA).zip file. Now, I would open the zip to see what the actual file extension is. So inside my zip I have a Pikmin.iso file. Right now, I would go into my global emulator settings and make sure both "zip" and "iso" are listed as usable extensions. I would also note that my uncompressed iso is named wrong. So, I would decompress it to the hard drive, rename it to Pikmin (USA).iso and rezip. Both files would then be named exactly the same except for the extension. This has to be true in all cases.

But lets say I have a bunch of zipped files all named wrong. Well, people want to automatically just use a program to rename the zips, which would be easy. Sadly, this doesn't work. The zip file and its contents must both be named exactly as the xml is. So, I have a few options. I could generate my own xml using dons xml generator based on my romset. (I do this for systems I only have a few games for, like gamecube). Then my problem would be renaming all artwork and videos to match my romset names.

Or, I could unzip all of my files, delete the zips, rename the files using whatever program I wanted, and then rezip, and continue to use the official xml. (This is always preferable if you can do it.)

By the way, I'm not sure, but I do think that with Don's ron renamer, all you have to do is set it to look at your hopefully official xml in the hyperspin/database folder and it will rename from that. I think you can do that with clrmamepro too. If that's the case, renaming should be cake, the only bother is mass unzipping, and personally, I've never tried to mass rename files that came with cues.

But, I hope this helps a bit. Goodluck.
