Nvidia sheild

Hi complete newbie here,I've just put bandits no clutter on my sd card with hyperspin on my sheild god knows how I did it but it kind of worked,all the emulators and games show up.but when I try to launch a game hyperspin closes down which ever button on my pad I try,I have tried to bind the keys in retroarch still the same what am I doing wrong,
