HyperSpin - Windows 8.1 Issue

Having an Issue after moving my Hyperspin environment from a laptop using Windows 7 to a DELL PC running Windows 8.1. Hyperspin comes up fine with videos and everything but the controller board keys won't do anything. If I end-run around Hyperspin and use MAME directly or Daphne directly, then everything works fine. Controller is an IPAC4 setup, it's all wired right and everything, works great. So, based on the PC and Windows O/S change and this is the only thing broken, I think, something is wrong in a setting or lib that is keyboard related in Hyperspin. Any folks know what I need to upgrade to fix this??? Anyone have some source info on the problem?

Thanks for your interest and help.

Do you have speakers plugged in?

I have a Green plug going from the back of the PC to a SubWoofer. Then from the subwoofer, I have two large speakers wired and then over head I have 3 speakers wired in series on each side. Have lots of sound, that's not the issue. Thanks for your suggestion/question.

It was a good question, sometimes that is the issue, just not in this case. I can still run MAME games and DragonsLair, so I'm having fun with it.... It's just not as cool and polished without the front end working. I need to somehow fix this or move to another front end.... Anyone else running 8.1 Windows and have it working???

Got some screen shots and config file samples where the keyboard stuff is defined? I may be useful to cross reference what you have vs what I'm setup with.... If everything matches, then that would confirm more of a driver/lib problem.... Thanks, Ed.

I tried to install .net 4.5 but it said it was already included in the operating system and wouldn't install it... Looks like I'm running windows 8.1.... Ed.

I installed the mGalaxy Front end and setup MAME with it.... mGalaxy works fine and it included the activeX install and so on, keyboard and controllers work... Hyper spin is still not recognizing anything from the keyboard or the controllers, so the mGalaxy install didn't include anything that fixed/changed OS Libs for Hyper...

When you say "moved" do you mean that you just transferred your setup across drives? If so, I'd do a quick reinstall of Hyperspin in another folder and see if that fixes the issue. I've been running 8.1 for a while, and not too long ago I had to reinstall 8.1 (thankfully Hyperspin isn't on my main drive) and I've had zero problems.

So, good suggestion.... I downloaded the Hyperspin 1.3.2 release and then the fix release after that. Moved those executables into place. I didn't see a setup.exe to run, so There may not be a difference between moving the files over from the other system to this one. If you run a setup.exe, then additional libraries get moved into the OS and so on. With this, it looks like it's just an exe swap.... So, after upgrading and rebooting, I went to retest and the same issue is there.... Here's the interesting part, in each version, it starts up and I can hit any key and the intro will cut short. So the keyboard is live and active. Once the menu wheel comes up it completely ignores the keyboard. So, this is occurring only after the intro code finishes.... Any other thoughts on how to fix????

Good question, so I've done three things to test that front.... Hit the program key and then moved the joystick around to set keys, nothing. Set to defaults, nothing. Tested every key on my keyboard, nothing. During the video/promo that plays in the startup, I've hit several joysticks and keys and each time it ends the video and goes to the wheel. I'm pretty sure that Hyperspin is doing something strange after the video runs. Either there's a bug, a bad call or different key strike collect call then in the earlier part of the code, or there is some setup issue. Looked for the docs and the link appears broken....

If this project is dead.... is it going to go open source at all? What's it coded in? (Like if I can take the source and recompile on 8.1 and get it to work, I'd share the final exe or lib changes made)

If the link is dead on the docs.... Will that be fixed anytime soon? (Like if I can check a doc versus my setup to resolve this, that would be cool, and I'd post what fixed it.)

Thanks,

Ed.
