MAME starts Blank screen Tab

I startup Hyperspin and choose mame and pick a game and when i start it the screen goes black and sound is in background, i can hit tab and hit video options and hit standard 4x3 and it shows up and works?

There a setting ?

I have to do this for every game ?

On a new arcade system for a friend

Try setting your video mode to "ddraw" instead of d3d in the mame.cfg

I'd try using a fresh cfg file then. Sounds like a wrong setting somewhere

Thanks for this baddeolv. Indeed my issue was with my mame.ahk. Didn't realize d3d would be default even after setting ddraw in MAME's MAME.ini. Onboard Intel 82865G.

SOLVED on my end :-)
