Windows 8 start screen behavior

Hi.

Is there any method by which you could exit a desktop application like Hyperspin or Steam and directly load the Start Screen? For me the Start Screen represents one of the nicest potential HTPC interfaces out there and a program I found called XBStart does a good job of allowing gamepad control on the Start Screen. However, some Microsoft responses I've looked up indicate that exiting a Desktop application will *always* go to the desktop and taskbar. You can hit the Win key, but I'd like to skip that step and go directly to the Start Screen on exit.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I've got this dim idea that I could do it with AHK, but I have zero experience with it.
