pjbridger Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Hi Guys, I am trying to clean up my system, I have been using my dreamcast system with a small amount of roms, These are not named in the same format as the Database XML, but as i was only using a small set of roms I just manually renamed them and the Art etc, I have a complete collection and I would like to add more to the system so i have been trying to rename them using a Database.xml and Dons Hypertools, This has worked for me with previous systems but in this case the Rom renamer is asking for a Database XML with CRC's, I have tried using other renaming tools but Dons REnamer is the only one i have found which also renames the files inside the Zip, Does anyone know where I can find this or another way of doing it? Best, P
wesfranks Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Or you could just uncheck "Match using CRCs" on the first page as you open Don's Renamer. Then it just uses fuzzy match. Be careful using automatic renamers for disc based systems. It's real easy to get bored with hundreds of roms (x2 or 3+ with multi-tracks, cues, subs, ccds) and let your renamer go wild, only to realize later that something went wrong. I never liked how it renamed the multi-track files to other than the rom name. You can take the time to verify each rom match before clicking the "rename" button, but that doesn't guarantee that track 01, 02, 55, etc is renamed in the proper order. I think you have less to worry about with Dreamcast, especially a gdi set, but some like PlayStation are a real pain. I think most of us are either real careful to get a properly named set or have a convoluted workflow to rename disc based systems manually. Oh, and most important--have a backup prior to renaming.
pjbridger Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 Thanks for your answers, unfortunately doing a fuzzy match only gets 3 results, I have noticed that my roms within the renamer have CRC numbers, Is there definitely no list I can match this too?
pjbridger Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 In the end I just did it by hand, Thanks All
