johnodon Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I posted a similar topic for HyperSpin in the unRAID forums. I figured I would do the same here. I'm going to go out on a limb that most of the HyperSpin users also like using other specialized software (i.e. media centers, firewalls, etc.). For anyone who is unaware, unRAID is "an embedded Network Attached Storage server Operating System specifically designed for digital media storage". unRAID is a solid NAS platform that is distinctly differnent that tradition RAID solutions in the fact that you can mix/match different sized drives. Add the fact that it has fantastic community that support it (much like HyperSpin) makes it aces. If you need a NAS solution, give it a look. My unRAID box actually houses my entire MAME catalog and HyperSpin runs them directly from there. http://lime-technology.com/ John "There are some who call me.......Tim."
Crylen Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Been a long time user of unraid and I can't say enough good things about it. The unraid 5.0 betas (it might as well be called final, I think the creator is just a perfectionist) and user created scripts really make it the best NAS around IMO. It's super easy to install plugins, add new drives, replace old ones and the community rivals that of Hyperspins. Best thing I can say about it is I've had several drives fail over the years, and unraid has never let me down. I've found that accessing really large clusters (see: mame set) of files can sometimes bog it down, but it was solved by switching to a 7z merged set. Glad to see another unraid fan around these parts =)
