TheMadHatter Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 OK so after I already started getting some of this stuff all set up i realized. Man im going to want to put this all on some different storage to make it more organized. So my Plan is to copy my HyperSpin folder and my Rom folder and put them all on my 5TB External HD. After i do this tho how bad will it effect my set up? Like i guess what are the things im going to have to change now that i got everything on a different drive? Im worried my Setting.ini will be all messed up and ill have to start over which im not 100% against but i am hoping to avoid that lol.

Or is it just as simple as going into all the pathing settings in RLUI and HyperHQ and finding all the paths to everything and changing them accordingly?
TheMadHatter Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 Are there examples of Lines in the .ini that i would need to change with the right path i just dont want to change something i shouldnt lol. So basically my Roms and my HyperSpin/RLUI are in my E drive. The External its going to is my H drive. My Paths Used to Look like this.HyperSpin E:\Emulators\HyperSpin\HyperSpin.exe Roms E:\Roms and Isos\(System)\(System's roms) RockeLauncher E:\Emulators\RockeLauncher\RocketLauncher.exe But my RockeLauncher UI is a Shortcut made in my HyperSpin E:\Emulators\HyperSpin\RocketLauncherUI.exe I want it to be something like this now. HyperSpin H:\HyperSpin\HyperSpin.exe Roms H:\Roms and Isos\(System)\(System roms) RockeLauncher H:\RockeLauncher\RocketLauncher.exe RockeLauncher UI H:\HyperSpin\RocketLauncherUI.exe Trying to get rid of as many folders as possible. But if keeping the "Emulator" Folder that right now has RL and HS in it is a better Idea i can always the folder again and put them in there. Either way doesnt really bother me that much.
TheMadHatter Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 When I moved and reorganized my setup I followed a similar structure on the root of my drive: Emulators HyperSpin RocketLauncher Roms So the main difference between your proposed structure and mine is the Emulators folder, which I assume you have inside your HS folder. If that's the case, there's no reason to leave them inside there because HS doesn't have anything to do with the emulators, just media now that you're using RL. If you don't want the Emulators folder on the root of your drive the next best place in my opinion would be inside the RL folder, since RL is the program handling them. Once you decide on the structure you want you can begin making changes. Since HS uses absolute paths you will have to update any paths set in HS files, no matter what structure you use or where you move them. You will have to change the path to RL in the HyperSpin/Settings/Settings.ini. You will also have to change any rompaths or exe paths you have set in HyperHQ by either modifying them in HyperHQ or through the system ini files in the HyperSpin/Settings folder. Since you're changing the structure in your proposed layout you will need to change all of your RL/RLUI paths, but most are easy. The main ones being the location of the emulators in the RL/Settings/Global Emulators.ini, but you can just do a find and replace in a text editor to change all of the emu paths at once so it takes like 5 seconds. The other major set of paths are the rom paths which are stored in individual files per system. Inside the RL/Settings folder each system has it's own folder which contains an Emulators.ini, inside that file is the rom path to change. Other than that you will just have to change the paths to any 3rd party applications like Daemon Tools, your Text Editor, Xpadder, etc but they're easy to recognize as their box in RLUI containing the path will be outlined in red if the path is bad. You can have a shortcut to RLUI wherever you want as long as the exe and all of the related files are in their proper location inside the RL folder. It sounds like a lot of stuff to change, but it's really not that bad especially if you don't have a bunch of systems. I had a little over 150 systems when I moved my setup and changed all the paths and it only took me around 20 minutes or so. If you're going to spend the time to do it now you may as well make sure that the new structure is the way you want it and you have everything separated to a degree. That way everything is organized and future proofed so later if you decide to drop RL or HS for other programs your Emulators aren't tied up in their folder structure. OK so I DO want my Emulators to be separated from my HyperSpin folder so my drive will look very similar to yours actually. So when i get home im going to start to try and tackle this. The main thing i was worrying about was changing the paths in .ini. I didnt want to mess up my .ini's and i wanted to make sure i was changing the right ones. But the only thing that will differ from the set up im trying to have right now to the set up for my END GAME down the road (which will prob be a couple years) Is Ill probably put my HyperSpin on an SSD drive instead of this external HD but ill still want a BACKUP copy of my HS folder on the external as well so doing this isnt making any MORE work because i plan on it anyways lol. But when i get home and start to tackle this ill see if i run into any problems. Thanks for all the info that helps out ridiculously
TheMadHatter Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 If you copy your setup to the new drive instead of moving it you'll have a backup of everything, so if you think you screwed something up you can just recopy the original and start the edits from scratch on that file. After testing the setup on the new drive and ensuring that everything was working correctly I removed the old install and copied over the new one to serve as a direct backup copy in case my main setup drive dies. Most of the errors you come across while doing it will be pretty easy to recognize due to RL highlighting any paths, rompaths, or emu paths that are incorrect. To minimize the amount of stuff you have to troubleshoot I would recommend changing stuff in sections. Copy over all the folders and set up the structure how you want it to be then start changing stuff one step at a time and verify it's correct (when it's possible to do so) before moving on to another file/aspect. That way if you run into a problem you'll already have some potential causes ruled out because you already know they're set correctly. I forgot to mention in my previous post that you will also need to check your emulator config or ini files for absolute paths to change as well (like bios paths). Ya the bios were throwing me off but most of the systems i have must of had bios build in or something bc SSF seemed to be the only one needing to repath them. But i got it all working. Only thing now thats messing up is my controls. Ill prob have to reconfig those right? for some reason HyperSpin main menu controlls are wonky when i use a ps4 controller now. even after reconfiging them in HQ. keyboard works fine tho
TheMadHatter Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 I think i need to get Xpadder and maybe even joytokey? Bc i got an Settings.ini from someone else who did have it and i tried to delete the line for it in the ini so it wouldn't try going to it but i think thay may of messed up my controls. Bc now every time i go into HyperHQ and set my controller configs its like the scrolling option for up and down is totally inconsistent. Sometimes it doesnt stop scrolling and sometimes it doesnt scroll and sometimes it registers fine. Every OTHER button works just fine. Like start favorites and stuff like that tho. Confusing. Would getting KeyMappers and setting those up fix this?
