Using the index feature of XMLs, could use some assistance.

Hey guys, so I have managed to get to a point in a few of my wheels where I am ready to find tune some of the sorting.

In particular, the way games in a series are listed.

For instance, my sonic games currently look like this:

Sonic - 3D Blast
Sonic - Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

Sonic - Knuckles' Chaotix

Sonic CD
Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog - Spinball

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Complete

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Part 1

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Part 2 - Sonic & Knuckles

Trust me, I know how insane that naming scheme looks. My wheels are pretty whacky as it is, but I've had a hell of a time trying to figure out a solid naming scheme for the sonic series. There's just SO many games, (I haven't even added the RomHacks yet) and then Sonic & Knuckles with all it's little lock on versions creates such a ripple there...

Anyway, I digress... I'm looking to organize these (and some others) in their proper order regardless of alphabetization.

I remember seeing somewhere a method on using the index:"____" feature on the XMLs, but I can't for the life of me find information on how to use it properly.

I need to get a handle on this section of the Sega Genesis-CD-32X wheel before I feel I can move onto putting the sonic RomHacks in here... God there's so many lol. and this section is going to be a wasteland if I don't do it JUST right.

I appreciate any help you guys can give.

In HyperHQ, browse to the system in question then go to Navigation/Themes and toggle "Use XML Indeces" at the left side of the window. Open your xml for the system and make sure you have at least one instance of index="true" image="<insert character here>" set, or else the wheel will always revert to alphabetical order. Ideally, you'd have the first game in each letter/number group with index set to true. Basically, just mimic the standard found in the official XMLs and you can index your games in whatever order you want. You could even, for example, define the image as something different, like a picture of Sonic, or a Sonic Ring, or something like that as opposed to using the normal letter standard. Options are pretty endless.

Note: While you could make the image you use anything you want, in the xml you still have to use a single, supported alphanumeric character when you define image=""

Interesting, I hadn't thought of using custom images for the letters.
Well outside of the letter packs that match the systems, like those Sega Letters.

I'm thinking maybe I don't understand the index feature correctly then. I was hoping to do something like use it to arrange games based on how they are listed in the XML.

So in practice that would mean I could re-arrange the games to look like this (below) by setting the Index "True" on each game I needed sorted.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog - Tails

Sonic the Hedgehog - Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog - Amy

Sonic the Hedgehog - Shadow

Sonic the Hedgehog - Metal Sonic

Sonic the Hedgehog - Mighty

Sonic the Hedgehog - Sally

Sonic CD

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Amy

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Shadow

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Metal Sonic

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Mighty

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Sally

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Part 1

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Part 2 - Sonic & Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Complete

Sonic - Eraser

Sonic - Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

Sonic the Hedgehog - Spinball

Sonic - 3D Blast

Sonic - Knuckles' Chaotix

(This is once some of the RomHacks have been added obviously.)
