ahk_class MAME

Hello all.

First time installer, followed instructions and have RL and HS "working."  Tried to load my first emulator (mame) and ROM (1943) but can't pass the rocket test and it fails to play in HS.  I get the following error upon exiting HS.....

There was an error waiting for the window "ahk_class MAME".  Please check you have the correct version emulator installed for this module, followed any notes in the module, and have this emulator working outside your Frontend first.  Also turn off Fade to see if you are hiding your problem.

I'm at a total loss.  Can anyone help?  Thank you in advance.

I'm new to all this so forgive me if I'm not posting this correctly but I feel like I've done my research, watched a ton of videos, read lots of instructions and searched through all the forums and I CAN'T get a single game to load.  Pathetic!

Welcome Jason,

I'm working off of my phone now so I will be of limited assistance, but in a bit you'll get about 4 or so better responses probably before I even press "send".

What they will need to know is the answers to the error popup. Since you said you had HyperSpin/RocketLauncher installed correctly, I assume you did the updates, bottom left of RocketLauncher window on startup. That should have updated the AutoHotKey (AHK) module to the latest.

If so, as the popup asked, what version of MAME are you running? Current version is v171. An updated module will give the command in the proper format to load that game. This may not be the case if they are out of sync.

As you probably read during your research the roms/games version will be best matched with the same version of MAME. Shouldn't matter w/ 1943 as that is an older game, however problems do crop up w/ cross-versions.

Next, did you get MAME to work outside of HyperSpin? This will be a critical step with MAME now, as well as any emulator you set up later.

Last, in RocketLaunçher select " Global" top left corner and "Settings" (button) across the top, "Fade", set "Fade In" and "Fade Out" drop down selection menu to "false". This allows you to see any error messages from the emulator. Do this every time you set up a new system. You can change this back later, but only after the new system works correctly.

MAME is a good first system. Once you get familiar with the process, all else to follow usually gets easier.

Again welcome, good flying and hope I didn't confuse you too much.

WOW.  Something so simple. I didn't realize the Emulator version was wrong.  I installed V171 and away we go!   My next hurdle is getting the video previews to work for each game and understanding how the main menu works and can be manipulated.  (current genre menu, skins, fonts etc.  Then setting up buttons!  I've got a Xtension 2 player control board "emulator edition" on its way and I'm quit excited.    I'm taking this nice and slow to familiarizing myself with many of the aspects.  I know I have a LONNNNNNNNNNG way to go but I'm having fun exploring!  Thanks so much for the help and any I welcome any and all advice for a newbie.  I hope to return the favor to someone else one day!
