Extending Joysticks

I bought some new joysticks and they are too short for my control panel. Even if I router it out I think they may still be too short. I see they make extensions, but the only ones that I can find are from China and are gonna take a month to get. Is there anything locally that I can buy at the hardware store to extend them? They are Swansa with the ball on top.

You could get some bat tops to make it a little longer.
