Cpwizard blank previews

I've setup all of my button layouts for my mame games, but i've found some games have blank previews? There seems to be no reason for this, as i have checked they have buttons assigned in game.

 

Out of my list of 240 games, there is around 60 which throw up a blank preview. ...these include Splatterhouse, Sunset riders, Pang!, Chelnov, etc etc...

 

Does anybody have any idea why the vast majority of games have the Layout preview but some do not?

They don't have entries in controls.xml (in CPWizard folder). You have to enter them manually. There might be a better way, but I'm trying to figure that out. I'm new to CPWizard.
