simonbelmont2 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Ok I have a BIG problem with configuring my roms path... First off all I have created in the "Media\Nintendo Entertainment System" 2 folders: - Engine - my emulator (Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Engine) - Data - my roms (Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Data) My main folder is C:\Nintendo. In that folder I have all my setup/folders. In the "Nintendo Entertainment System.ini" I've set the "Engine" and the "Data" folders to be path=C:\Nintendo\Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Engine\ rompath=C:\Nintendo\Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Data\ In the "Nestopia.cfg" I've set the roms path to be -files path image : "..\Data\" If I rename the main folder "Nintendo" on the drive C:\ to be "NES" for ex. and set the folders "Data" and "Engine" in the "Nintendo Entertainment System.ini" to be "path=Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Engine\" , "rompath=Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Data\" the "HyperSpin" will work (I've checked the log file to see if it give errors) but when I want to launch a game the emulator will give me this error "Nestopia Error - File not found!" If someone understand my problem please help me.... I've tried everything but without any luck.
simonbelmont2 Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 UPDATE: I've found the error. For some reason the HyperSpin or maybe the emulator don't support spaces in the roms names. For example if I use "Castlevania II.nes" the emulator will give an error that the file could not be found (Nestopia Error - File not found!). If I use "CastlevaniaII.nes" everything works. Now the big problem is I have to rename all the roms, artwork etc. to not have spaces in the names. If anyone knows how to put spaces (the code not just press space on the keyboard) within windows xp in the roms names to be regonized by the emulator or the "Hyperspin" or have other ideas please inform me. Thank you very much!
sneakily1 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 just download and install this free utility called Renamer. It's simple to use, and you can just put a variable in to change * .* to *.* just drag all of the files you want to rename into the window, setup the variable, and hit rename...in 2 seconds all of your roms are fixed. http://www.den4b.com/downloads.php?project=ReNamer
simonbelmont2 Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Thank you sneakily1 for the hint. I use RenameIT; it's a good program for renaming files and I recommand it. The problems are resolved for the moment. I want to know what's causing the name spacing problem: the emulator or the frontend Hyperspin? Thanks!
SophT Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 just for the record- HyperSpin does support spaces in the rom name. but then again so does nestopia.... Things I Break ----- System Requirements? How do I remove rom warnings? How do I shut-down my computer? How do I shell HyperSpin?
simonbelmont2 Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 I was thinking the problem was gone but I was wrong... So, after a lots of testing I discover that the frontend HyperSpin "damage" something and make the emulator to give that error. How I discover this? it's simple: in "Nestopia.cfg" I've set the "-files path image :" to be "..\Data\". If I set the "rompath" in "Nintendo Entertainment System.ini" to be "C:\Nintendo\Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Data\" the emulator it will work. If I set the "rompath" in "Nintendo Entertainment System.ini" to be ".\Media\Nintendo Entertainment System\Data" the emulator will give that error. To understand how my folders are organized I have something like this: In C:\ I have a folder named "Nintendo". That folder includes "Databases" , "Media" , "Settings" , "HyperSpin.exe" and "log.txt". "Media" folder includes "Nintendo Entertainment System" and "Frontend". "Nintendo Entertainment System" folder includes "Data" (my games) , "Engine" (nestopia emulator) , "Images" , "Sound" , "Themes" , and "Video". So, what's causing the problem? Can someone help me? Thanks!
simonbelmont2 Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Can someone help me with this problem? Thanks!
SamC Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Anyone found a remedy to this problem? Can't run .nes files (from within HyperSpin - File not found error) If changed to .zip explorer window open up. I followed this guide to a T: http://hyperspin-fe.com/oldsite/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=105&Itemid=118 but to no avail. ***EDIT*** As with everything I do in life; came back to it next day and got it working within a couple of minutes. If you are using zip files then you need to make sure file associations within Nestopia (under Preferences) are unchecked.
lukebrynycz Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Well, I had to come back to this thread, not just to thank the guys who made suggestions, but to post my resolution. I had ZIP as the extension in HyperHQ but it kept saying file not found etc. Very simple, but nonsense fix. I simply changed "ZIP" to "NES,ZIP" and voila, working a treat! Weird stuff. It was working fine on my XP config, but then stopped working when I moved to Windows 7 64bit.
mriggins Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I had same issue today when finally setting this up. My solution? Zip the .nes roms into .zips, and use zip in HyperHQ as the extension. Tossed the uncompressed .nes files leaving the zips and that solved it.
