mcgeezer Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Hi, Does anyone use a RAM disk on their Hyperspin setups to improve performance? Specifically if you have some large compressed ISOs there's a delay as these are unzipped before the media will play. I was thinking of creating say a 2GB ram drive which is used to unzip to and then the emulators can run that media from RAM. Does anyone use this setup? If so what RAM Drive software do you use and did it increase game startup performance for your compressed roms? Thanks, mcgeezer
Darkone Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 I have used it in the past. I still use a ramdrive for windows temp dir. The problem is if your reading from a normal drive your bottleneck is the read speed of that drive. If your using a ssd youll get better results but will kill the ssd fast with read/writes etc. your best bet is to unzip to a second drive so your not reading and writing to the same drive at the same time with two tasks. Also make sure your zip program is not setup to write to a temp dir then move files to its destination.
