LedBlinky not talking to me :(

Hey. Hoping Arzoo and co may have a simple answer.

Now before I start I have in no way got this set up properly!

My Pacled64 arrived yesterday but my rgb buttons haven't as yet arrived so I'm sort of in the middle.

Anyway I wanted to check the board / LB worked and saw each other etc so I wired in the Pacled64 which LB seems to see as it stopped complaining it wasn't there.

Anyway I set up all the options (I think) to get it to speak in Mame and hopefully HS. However nothing, games laid without saying the name, controls etc, it's like LB isn't there.

Couple of questions then. Do I actually have to have a led lighting up?

I also saw a vid on YouTube where the LB splash seemed to pop up as Hyperspin launches. I don't get that. I tried launching it myself before running HS and still nothing.

I have it turned on in HyperHQ and it appears in my settings.ini fine.

Obviously my sound works fine in the PC generally.

Is there anything I should be looking for or will it just not work until I have all the buttons set up completely?

Cheers dudes.

Hi,

You don't need the LED's wired up for LEDBlinky to work - as long as the LED controller is detected it should do it's thing. So there must be something else not configured correctly. If you don't see any splash screen (and this is not a registered versions), then it seems like HS is not launching LEDBlinky - you can check the HS log file to see what's going on. As a double-check, can you alt-tab out of HS and see if the LEDBlinky icon is running in the system tray? If LEDBlinky is running, then you can try the troubleshooting app to see what the problem is. Let me know what you find.

Got a little way at least. I disabled LB in HyperHQ, saved then enabled it again.

Also realised I was using 5 1 0 2 so updated LB and now when I run Hyperspin it loads, shows the LedBlinky splash and says "LedBlinky" but that's as far as I have got at the mo.

Can't get it to speak controls in Hyperspin or say game name or controls in Mame yet.

Do I need to point it to a controls.ini before it will??

It's actually saying the speech when it enters and exits the FE as well so I presume I will be able to get it working I'm looking forward to a good play with it!!

I downloaded a controls.ini file for Mame? Where do I put that and do I have to point to it? Is that supposed to be in my mame folder?I saw the bit in config for controls.ini but is that for other systems?

Thanks for your help :)

You can put the controls.ini in any folder as long as the LEDBlinky config points to the correct file location. The controls.ini file is only used for mame. For other systems, you have to use the controls editor to define defaults or individual game controls.

Hmm still not getting anywhere making it talk in Mame but will continue to fiddle.

More troubling I was trying out a few games and they were stuttering. Not unplayable but annoyingly so.

I disabled LedBlinky in HyperHQ and the games play like a dream again.

I'm using win 7 64 bit with an i3 so it should be quite capable I think.

Any ideas?

Sorry to mither you ;)

Something is not right - LEDBlinky should be totally inactive when playing a game unless you've specified a GamePlay animation and even then it shouldn't slow down the emulator. Can you confirm from Windows Taskmanager if LEDBlinky is using high cpu cycles?

If you turn on the Debug Log and Verbose options, run HS and a game or two that are not working as you expect, then email me the debug.ZIP file and I'll take a look.

I've got somewhere last night. Got the speech working and stopped the slowdown but not sure how as annoyingly I fiddled with a few settings.

Have a feeling it was something to do with flashing the LEDs as I played (can't remember the option will check when I get in) but I also played with the optimiser section in HyperHQ.

Still waiting for the actual LEDs to arrive but think I may more or less have it sorted.

Reading the 70 page PDF properly was a good start!!

Mate it's working fine now. Thanks for the help. It is brilliant. Will register it shortly.

Just a quick one my LEDs weren't strobing with speech and I saw somewhere else you had said it was the TTS voice. I was using an Ivona one. Switched to Microsoft and it works fine.

Problem is the voice is rubbish :)

Have you any suggestions for good voices? What do people use?
