Retroarch help

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble with retroarch and the mame/mess cores. I am trying to get some of the weird systems that only work in mame/mess but having trouble.

I am able to get a lot of systems to work in RLUI if I set the emulator to mame directly. This would be fine but I would like to use retroarch for the controller setup options.

If i switch the emulator to retroarch, it crashes when loading some roms.  NES runs perfect in retroarch, but Watara Supervision will crash. This is true when running from retroarch natively as well.

After fighting with it for a few hours, I finally got retroarch to sort of work.

I am able to run watara supervision if I launch a rom from my Mame software list directory which is in Mame format, but if I launch it from my Watara directory which is hyperspin format it will crash. I'm guessing this is because Retroarch is looking at the hash file, and wants it named in the Mame format.

Weird thing is I tried copying the rom from the Mame software list folder and put it in my Watara folder just to see what would happen and it still crashed. I dont know why it would run in the mame folder but not this other folder. I did not hard code any paths into my retroarch... i was just picking the directory from the gui. My mame and retroarch emulators are on G: drive, and my rom folders are as such.. n:\mame\software files\    and n:\watara supervision\     so the two folders should act similar, and not be receiving any extra files from somewhere that would make one work and the other not.

My two questions are

1. Why would retroarch work when loading a rom from one directory, but when loading the same rom from another directory it would crash.

2. if it only works using mame format, how do you audit your roms in RLUI if the hyperspin database does not match mame naming?
