New mame cabinet parts advice needed

Hello, fellow spin members! Been a long time since I've been on Hyperspin. My last build was back in 2015. The site has been totally revamped since then. Anyway, I'm hoping to get some advice from fellow MAME cabinet builders. For starters, I'd like some recommendations on controls, buttons and parts. I'm about to make a 4 player cabinet for the first time. The last cabinet I build was a 2 player and it was my first. I used X-Arcade/X-Gaming parts which worked but was highly frustrating. My biggest gripe was that they mapped certain buttons to auxiliary keys such as Alt, Shift, Ctrl, etc. This caused many headaches configuring certain emulators because the alt key would was programmed to launch menus and other such issues. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a more logical controll/button kit that has a more logical pcb board.

Also, I haven't updated emulators in a long time. Genesis, Atari, Coleco, TurboGrafix16 and several others were a nightmare and I could barely get them to work, some not at all. Have there been any advancements there? Can anyone give me a good list of the best available emulators for each console? I know, I'm asking a lot. But after 3 years, I feel like a total noob again. Thanks in advance for your help! Also, if I should be posting this elsewhere, let me know.

-John
