Hyperspin closing out during random times

So my hyperspin will close out when it is idle and when I hit escape button to exit mame. It sometime brings me back to the logo screen but not all the time any help would be fun...yes I am a new kid on the block. Thank you for your time

I’ve had this happen in the past if you try to send the hyperspin menu to an xml entry that does not actually exist or is spelled incorrectly. No where to go so it closes.

Is the xml file your talking about the one in databases?

Do you think it might have to do with my super old version of mame? It happens mostly when I escape from a game in mame.
