Hyperspin stuttering after every reboot of windows 7

hi community,

i have a strange problem with hyperspin lately. if i turn on my cab and windows boots up and i start hyperspin for the first time in this windows session it stutters the whole intro video and the first 10 seconds or so in the wheel menu. if i quit it and start it manually from desktop the second time, all is fine and there is no stuttering at all. i have tried several things, checked all autostart programs, disabled them, reinstalled graphic card drivers (same behaviour even without graphic card drivers at all), downloaded all windows updates, deinstalled antivirus, deactivated windows defender but the problem persists. first time i noticed the stuttering was a few days ago and i could swear there wasn't such a problem before. for any tips what to check next i would be very thankful. last option is to reset my windows 7 :-(

i have one ipac2 and two xbox360 controllers plugged in and set hyperspin to joystick control.

my system:

intel i7 2600k, ati hd 6850 graphics, 16gb ddr3 ram, gigabyte mainboard

thanks in advance,

Roland

Any weird activity if you can check task manager at the time?

Sounds like HDD usage to me. Which would make me think Windows Updates and/or Antivirus scans.. But as you said, this has been checked its strange.

Is there anything starting with Hyperspin that might cause high usage of HDD or CPU?

thanks for the reply. i will check the hdd activity today after work. but windows is on a 240gb ssd and boots up really fast. even if i wait a minute or so after the windows desktop is showing up and all loading is finished, start hyperspin manually for the first time, it stutters. i really try to think of what i may have changed, but there is nothing special that i would remember. maybe i download another fresh copy of hyperspin today, put it in another folder and check if this helps.

any other thoughts of what i can check?

Weird how its only on the first instance of the application loading...  I would say start with HDD activity.

Your system specs are close to mine so I don't think its hardware related to be honest. Unless the HDD you have Hyperspin on is having troubles.

Is your Hyperspin running off the SSD or on a separate HDD. Might be severe Fragmentation, but even then still doesn't quite explain it.

If you do choose to re-install windows, maybe upgrade to Windows 10.

As I have an "eyesight issue", the accessibility upgrade is still available for free I believe.

Be sure to get in quick as it ends on the 31st of December this year.

I wish you luck.

hyperspin is running off a separate hdd, i will check it for errors and activity.

upgrading to windows 10 is also an option, i hope it's not getting worse ;)

strange, it runs flawlessly a few weeks ago on the same hardware... have to do more painful tests, i think :(

i will report here if i found a solution.

thanks so far

i think i found the issue: i have an arcade cab with 2 aimtrak guns und 2 xbox360 controllers plugged in. if i set the hyperspin controls to keyboard, all is fine and the stuttering is gone. if i set it to joystick, set the joystick id, configure it and activate it, after the next windows boot it stutters again. i think hyperspin is not happy with the xbox360 controller, or the controllers in combination with the lightguns in my cab. maybe someone can test with a xbox360 controller configured and activated if the stutter is there too? i think i will override this problem by sticking to keyboard control with my ipac (but xbox360 controller control would be the nicer option). maybe there will be a fix sometime in the future?

Could probably have xpadder or one of the likes to map your xbox controls to the same as your Ipac controls when in Hyperspin perhaps?

Not really a fix but might be a work-around for now.

sorry for the long delay. maybe i'll give that idea a try. for now i have added some extra buttons to my cab which go to an ipac to control only hyperspin. works ok.

I'm experiencing something similar and I'm wondering if it's a HDD issue. I have nearly all of my Hyperspin stuff on an external 6tb drive and it's choppy when it first loads. The intro video stutters and it's slow for the first 10 or so seconds if I try to navigate through the menus. It's gotten to the point where I have like 30gb left on my external 6tb HDD so I've had to put another 2tb worth of stuff on my main HDD. I'm wondering if being that close to maximum capacity is slowing the whole thing down. I haven't yet defragmented it to see if maybe that will speed it up a bit. Have to give a try and see.
