skrathe Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I just thought I would throw up a few pics of the cabinet I'm working on. I'll fill in some of the details later. I think I will have to get a bigger HHD 500Gigs filled up way to quickly. I was also thinking about running OS and Hyperspin on a SSD and using something like a 2 terabyte drive to store all roms on. Would this increase performance or is it a waist of time? Any input would be appreciated. PC Specs. ebarlow99 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 ssd's increase speed yes! and looks good keep it up!! http://www.bartop-arcades.com
KMxRetro Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I've got a 120GB SSD holding my operating system, with Hyperspin and ROMS on a separate standard drive. I had a regular drive in place instead of the SSD while I was testing, and the second I switched that drive out and put the SSD in there - wow! The increase in speed was incredibly noticeable, even with Hyperspin and the ROMS on a standard drive. Definitely worth it, I'd say! Your cab looks really good so far, too! Great work!
skrathe Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks ebarlow99 and KMxRetro I think I'll start swapping OS over this weekend.
greatbigjay Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Your cab looks awesome, I am planning/building a pedestal style right now. I have the cp all designed and cut out, but am having some trouble with the dimensions on the base. would you be willing to give me the dimensions you used on the sides of the base unit?
HazzardActual Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Im with jay on this, im trying to come up with a good design and i'd love some insight. Also i run my OS off of an SSD and i get like 10 second reset times. Its awesome
skrathe Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 The base I made a lot bigger than the Dream Home arcade style. That way I can fit an actual PC in the cabinet instead of just bolting a mother board to MDF. I should be working on it tonight so I should be able to post some dimensions later. Sorry for the late response haven't checked the forum for a few weeks.
skrathe Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Got new handles! The original ones I got from Amazon broke the springs the first time I tried to use them. I also swapped out the XArcade control board for I-PAC4. I wasn't happy with having to hit the load button twice for the save state to load. I want it to be drunken operator friendly.
skrathe Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 The width of the box is 22". I basically cut out the sides framed it in with 2x2's and slapped Formica over everything to cover screw holes.
