Any way to get buttons/players/controls to populate in Mame.xml?

When creating my hyperlist i want to be able to sort it by games that my cab can support... eg, no trackball, no wheels, etc.  I can't find/generate a mame.xml that includes player count, button number, controller type, etc.  I had one long ago but it's been gone for awhile and I have been trying to create one.  I have nplayers.ini which I believe has all this information, but I can't incorporate it into the xml.

Is there a special way I can achieve this?
