C_Wilson009 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Hey guys, I was just wondering if there is some way to make a global keyboard key set for hyperspin? I seem to always have issues with different emulators, aside from MAME. For example, I have Fusion for sega, and the only way to exit is by pressing the ESC key. Or Project 64 seems to only exit by pressing ALT + F4. SSF doesn't seem to like any keys that I use, like CTRL or SHIFT etc. I bought an X Arcade joy pad and all the buttons I use are from the keyboard. I also use Hyperspin with the new RocketLauncher setup. (which is amazing btw) I know its probably not possible, but is there any way to have a specific key set in Hyperlaunch or do I have to just deal with all the different configurations?

The closest thing I have seen so far, is a thread about standardizing the controls and removing any special keys. I think I'm going to re config all my controls to reflect it. I guess the biggest thing is to not use ctrl, shift, alt, etc for player controls? I guess I'll still have to keep a keyboard handy for specific emulators.

Trying not to use special keys for any emulators. This way, you don't have to reprogram your CP or use a keymapper. You do have to set the controls for most of the emulators, but done once and I have had little to no trouble with my setup. One more question though. What is keymapper for? I see it on HLHQ but I have no idea what its for.
Fromlostdays Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Keymappers are programs like xpadder that are used to simulate key presses via controller. In other words, you can leave the default emulator keys set up, and then use xpadder to make the the start button on your xbox controller simulate an {enter} press, for instance. It can be a little daunting setting up for every system, and some people claim it gives the keystrokes a little latency. I for one, though, use this method, as I find it to be more reliable as the default emulator keys never change. So really, you have three options. If the emulator supports it, you can simply set up your controller buttons in the emu. (This can be unreliable if you mess with the settings or inis etc) as the emulator may revert back to its default keyboard setup. You can use a keymapper to have you controller reflect individual emulator's default keys. Or you can set all your emulators to a standardized keyboard layout, and then use a keymapper.
