The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Media folder location

I am new to HyperSpin, and I can't seem to find the answer to my question anywhere. Is it possible to change the location of the media folder? I'd like to keep HyperSpin on my SSD and have the media on my WD green drive that I use for storage. Thanks in advance.

I know this post is very old, but I am in the EXACT same boat. I want hyperspin/emulators on my ssd but I want my media somewhere else. It's been a few years - can we edit the registry or make a setting change somewhere yet and relocate the media folder?

Thanks for the idea!

I found this:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4339220/is-there-a-way-to-map-a-unc-path-to-a-local-folder

Which is very similar and looks like it should work out for me (I am actually going to try dumping to a UNC path on my file server)

I may give that a spin later (pun intended)

Bummer it can't be done easily natively in an ini for the program though, I would think launching from ssd and dumping media somewhere else might be more common.

Thanks!

I was messing around in the settings INI and found that while I couldn't move the entire media folder, what I COULD do is move the VIDEOS - well the videos are 82gb out of 89 gb storage space - that makes this a lot more livable on ssd. I left the Frontend and main menu videos but moved all the rest to a UNC share mapped drive like my games are. I will report back on how smooth it runs if at all.

For anyone making global changes, notepad++ is a lifesaver with find and replace across all the settings files at once.

The media folder (videos) can be on another drive, but the artwork MUST be on the same drive as HS. This is how I have it on my SSD. The artwork takes up minimal space...

well, I have had a few days to play with it.

I'm not sure if notepad++ borked up all my settings.ini or if my hyperspin download just had screwey paths but that was a real mess. I straightened that out.

And as far as the videos go I am happy to report it runs JUST fine. Running hyperspin completely over SMB made for a slow experience - especially when switching back to main menu from a system (although reasonable once in a system)

Once I loaded the images and local themes on the ssd then dumped the videos entirely onto the smb share I see little to no difference in speed but plenty of extra free space. I love running hyperspin/emulators from ssd but the rest is fine offloaded. I'm remotely running all my roms too. Time will tell once I get cd based larger ones setup if they are fine - but then again gig ethernet is faster than an old cd-rom drive...

This machine has a gigabit connection to a gig switch and the server has a gig hookup. YMMV, but it's just fine for me.

Hy, we can make with a simple cmd with Windows7

Map your Drive and duplicate your media folder in.

Delete or move in secure folder the hyperspin media folder and create a new with _,

ex : _Media

open CMD and tape this command : mklink "C:\Hyperspin\Media" "Z:\Hyperspin\Media" /D

Z: is your letter

After, you can delete the "_Media" folder, it's work

Forgive my english, I learn all time ;)
