bearzilla333 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 is there any instructions on this or tutorials? I looked and I am having no luck. Thank you in advance
Guest Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 The pro version of Windows 8 (and 7) allows for a custom UI to be set in group policy. This loads an exe file, something like xbmc or hyperspin, instead of explorer.exe Steps 1 and 2 from section 3 of the guide below will get you on your way. It works on Windows 8, select your HyperSpin exe file instead of xbmc.exe. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=How-to:Make_Windows_boot_directly_to_XBMC_(as_a_shell) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 thank you for this information, much appreciated.
Guest Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Windows 8 I think. It gives a much cleaner boot sequence without any further modification. Windows 7 requires a lot more hacking to get a nice clean boot sequence. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Well it took a better part of 2 days trying to install windows 8 and doing the updates, for the love of god, I cannot believe how long that takes to do, but it's done now. I been trying to redo my machine (you can see in the signature) my machine kind of pooped out on me, my nephews play the hell out of it, and it stopped loading hyperspin altogether (this could be partly for me to blame as I did not tell them how to properly shut off the machine, they would just cut the power and not exit the program and the computer turns off when this is done properly), long story short I had to do a new install. I tried to help prevent all the work I put into my hyperspin setup and mirrored a copy of what the original hyperspin folder was. However I am kind of stuck when I am trying to transfer all 59000+ files to my newly installed windows 8, it brain farts on certain files, like the XML, C and H files, like it doesn't recognize them and will not copy them to the C drive, has anyone run into this problem before, or am I missing something? Sorry in advance if I should make this a new topic?
Guest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I suspect this maybe down to permissions. You may have to take ownership of the files. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 I thought that too, I got the full permissions on all the files, but it still did it to me.
Guest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Are you replicating the directory structure? Could it be that the new place causes a file path which is too long? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Guest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 The specific error message given when it 'brain farts' would help too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Well my initial setup was just one HyperSpin file on the C drive. I basically just copied and pasted it to 2 other drives. I think so, its the exact same file structure as before. I been beating my self up all day trying to figure it out, I am done for today, but I was thinking maybe copying one folder at a time, it is about 58gb of stuff 50,000+ files lol, lot of stuff (I am sure its a drop in the bucket compared to some of you other guys out there). However I do remember transferring these files no problem before on a windows 7 machine no problem, maybe something with windows 8 that I am over looking?
bearzilla333 Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 well give me about 15 mins I will turn on the machine and go look at it, I snipped the error so I could look at it again, I will be a few.
Guest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 No there would be no difference with Windows 8 over 7. We will know more with the error message. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 ok it says "Can't read from the source file or disk" does to XML files and other files such as H or C files as well.
Guest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Can you show more details on that? Also try copying that individual file across. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 other 2 I just did some snippets, I noticed some of the files under emulation/source...
Guest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 It's seems that your having problems copying across the source files of the emulators. You don't really need them. They could have odd file names. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Well got it all copied over, its been a very busy week for me, I had a couple of hiccups with hyperspin and was getting errors, but I found out I needed some micro stuff things downloaded and hyperspins works just as I had saved it before. Now I can not figure out the shell I get to the spot where it says to go to system folder, then open "custom user interface" there is not such folder or option...
Guest Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Make sure your in the User configuration on the left hand side. The group policy isn't available for Computer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 I am in the user configuration. I did just exactly like the steps showed...
Guest Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Do you have the Pro version of Windows? This GP isn't available in Home Premium. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 it is Pro. I got to the custom user interface, howver when I enter this HyperSpin.exe it did not work, do I need to enter the full C path?
Guest Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Yeah gotta be the full path Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bearzilla333 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Yes! That was it. It is shelled works flawlessly. Thanks for your repeated help, very appreciated!
