mame.ini file where is it?

can someone tell me where the mame.ini file is so I can edit mt controller? I cannot find it and do not know how to get to it. Thanks I have mame 0.154

You need to use command prompt. The path to my mame emulator is E:\emulators\mame\0.154\mame64.exe

So I would need to type this into command prompt

cd E:\emulators\mame\0.154
mame64 -createconfig

then mame.ini should magically appear in the same folder as mame64.exe

I did get the folder to appear should it be blank? There is nothing in the file..

You will have to walk me through what you are doing step by step because I have no idea what it is you are doing. You have me very confused.

Thank you for your help ghutch92. I have figured this out, (With your help) and below is what I had to do and may help others with a similar problem.

1) click start at bottom left desktop

2) type cmd (in search programs and files)

3) right click on cmd and choose (run as administrator)

4) type cd c:\ (enter)

5) type cd c:\Hyperspin\Emulators\MAME\mame0154b_64bit.exe (enter)

6) type mame64.exe -cc (enter)

This will create the .ini file for mame and will appear in the mame folder.

The paths are for my system and may vary for yours but should be a similar path exchange. This is for mame 0.154 and was typed to the name of MY files and locations.

OK sorry for that. My path to mame is as follows:

C:\Hyperspin\Emulators\MAME\mame0154b_64bit.exe\mame64

When I bring up the cmd prompt from my start menu, run as admin, and type the path from above and add the -createconfig, I do not get anything to open. The path is exactly how my folders are written.

Anyhow, when I closed out of all this, There was a blank file that appeared in my mame folder. I assumed this is what I had just created. NOW if I start over and just type in the cmd mame.ini and hit enter, I get the info I was looking for. If I copy and paste this in the JUST APPEARED file, would this be ok? I do understand this is all screwed up and should not happen this way and have confused myself now as well. I am lost and do not know where to go from here. More reading and trial n error I guess to find out where I went wrong.
