phranque1673
Hey guys and gals, Found this site a few months ago and got bit by the bug. Started building my PC first and figured I would do the cab later. Well fate stepped in and I was able to get a complete Atari Showcase 33 on the cheep (plus a second without the control pod) that included the monitor. From what I can tell it is a WellsGardner D9200 33". Guy I bought it from said I can hook my PC straight to it. Looking at the unit it does have a separate board with a VGA in. Looked around the web and found conflicting info on it. I have a Radeon HD4670 in the PC with a Core I3 chip running Windows 8. Long story short question. Can I plug my PC directly in to the monitor or are there setting that need to be adjusted? Currently the PC is connected to an HD LCD Monitor and looks great. albert_c
You really lucked out with your PC graphics card and with your monitor. I believe this monitor takes both a 15khz and a 31khz signal through separate connectors. That being said, you can connect your graphics card directly to the VGA connector and run it at 640x480. If running MAME, the newer games will look great on it (NAOMI games and beyond), and the older games, not so great. As for your graphics card, you have a Radeon HD4000 series which will allow you to run the hacked Calamity drivers which will output a 15khz signal. No need to buy the ArcadeVGA card. The highest card the Calamity drivers will support are the Radeon HD4000 series, so with that being said, you will have one of the higher-end cards possible should you want to run your MAME games in their original resolutions. You will need to get a VGA>CGA breakout cable or make one yourself to connect it to your graphics card. Also, the Calamity drivers don't support Windows 8 and Windows 7 testing for these drivers is in beta testing. Right now, the Calamity drivers are only fully supported in Windows XP. You can read more about the Calamity drivers and GroovyMAME which these drivers were designed for below: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135823.0.html?PHPSESSID=ho0k5hmckc24u33dmq661m8ke4
phranque1673
Thanks Albert. Been sidetracked with other responsibilities, so hopefully will get to play with the cab soon.
