There are a couple of reasons to have Plat membership: 1). The cool badge under your name! 2). The knowledge that you are helping support all this with a little more money. 3). HyperSync. Doing all the collection is much preferred by me as well. When I only had a few systems setup. But, once OCD kicked in and I have two machines with quite a few systems on each, HyperSync is invaluable. And to add the new art and videos as they are released, just requires a few clicks in HyperSync and all the new stuff is added automagickly. Add a new system, set it up in HyperSync and sync.
