Nestopia opens in tiny screen, how do I get it to open full screen?

Took me a while to hammer out the details of actually getting an NES game to load. Now though when I click on the game to load it, it works... yet it opens up in the tiny default Nestopia box size (almost as if to taunt me lol). I've tried maxing the size on Nestopia while I've got it open via HS, but it just boots back to the game-select-wheel for NES. I also tried opening Nestopia on it's own, full screening it, then exiting... and proceeding to open via HS.. Same issue, boots back to wheel. The screen sizes on my desktop, HyperHQ, and Nestopia are all set at 1600x900.

Anyone got the solution?

Options -> Preferences -> Switch to fullscreen on startup.

That oughta do it.

Well that solved that problem, it definitely opens full screen now. But this has brought me a new problem. Nestopia (or possibly the game I'm using to test it, Super Mario Bros 3) doesn't seem to like being opened in full screen, because it minimizes almost immediately. It does it outside of Hyperspin as well (so I'm assuming it's not at all a HS issue). Outside of HS I'm able to alt-tab and select Nestopia, and it brings it back up at full size and I'm good to go. Inside HS, I'm unable to get the game to work, and eventually I'm forced to close HS.

I realize this is more of a Nestopia issue, but can someone on here help me? I'm at work so I don't have a ton of time to peruse for a solution right now. I'm contemplating swapping to an entirely new NES emulator, can anyone suggest one that's better fitted for HS?

Nestopia does work properly with HS. In the same preferences popup window you can enable suppress pedantic warnings remarks and autostart emulation.. Also try fiddling around with View--->>>Screen size. I have it set to Max. If both of these fail then just delete Nestopia folder re-download and retry.

I'm having the same issue. Just upgraded from my XP machine to 7 and now I can't play Nestopia (fullscreen) until I hit ALT+ENTER to exit fullscreen. Once I hit ALT+ENTER, it abandons HS and HS just sits in the background (annoying).

I tried reinstalling Nestopia, same issue. Updated NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660 drivers rebooted and still the same issue. All emulators work except this one.

Anyone else still have this issue or a solution?

Why do u have to leave full screen to start playing? Does it not load the rom properly? And start it straight away?

Some things to check:

1. Are u using latest hyper launch?

2. Latest Nestopia module from hyper list?

3. Followed the setup instructions at the top of the Nestopia module?

4. Using the correct version of Nestopia that the module was designed for?

I use Nestopia with windows 7 and have the gtx 650 and have had no issues.

I'm using HL 2.13 and Nestopia 140bin. And just so we're clear, I'm not having a problem launching Nestopia from HS.

The problem is now that I'm using Windows 7, when Nestopia launches full screen...the screen is black (I see nothing). I see nothing until I window Nestopia using ALT-ENTER. This happens outside of HS. Nestopia loads NES roms fine. If I launch Nestopia from HS, the same problem occurs (screen goes black), so to get out I have to hit ALT-ENTER. After doing that, HS is still running in the background and completely useless. I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and find the .exe files in the processes running to completely close everything down and start over.

latest hyperlaunch is 2.25c..

check that your settings match this image.

if you have these settings already, update to hyperlaunch 2.25c and try again, if it still doesnt work, post back your hyperlaunch.log.

My Nestopia setting look just like yours. Again, Nestopia is launching to a full screen, a blank screen (outside of HS). If I resolve why its doing that, then launching from HS correctly will solve the problem.

I had the same issue with nestopia at one point. I don't remember how I fixed it, it was a while ago. You're saying it will only show video in windowed mode right? If I were you I'd be looking in nestopia settings for video resolution etc and trying different things out. And I know nobody wants to hear this, but you could always try another emulator. Jnes works fine for me.

Thanks guys, I got it fixed last night.

I have a Wells Gardner 9200 (800x600 max). Usually when something goes dark on my monitor it's due to the resolution of whatever I'm trying to run going outside of the WG's limits. Thankfully, with my LG stretch monitor (for marquees) I can quickly test that theory and start narrowing the problem down.

So, what I did was go under Video Options (in Nestopia) and update the "Mode" to 720x576. At 640x480 or 800x600 and full screen selected, I get a black screen. 720x480 works, but (obviously) looks more squeezed.

HS has always been launching the emu correctly, it appears to be just a display setting within Nestopia all along.

Sorry to reply to an old thread, but I am having the same issue. Before switching over to the latest HL, nestopia would launch with no issues, but now Nestopia opens in the background. If I uncheck open in full screen in nestopia, it will open in a windowed mode, otherwise I get a black screen for around 3 seconds and then I am back to the HS wheel. I can alt-tab and Nestopia is there running what ever game I chose in HS. Using djvj module with Nestopia 1.4, XP64 SP2.

I just found the problem, it has to due with the color bit rate. My display adapter is set to 32bit, but nestopia was set to 16bit and when I changed it to 32bit, it opened correctly after a short windowed outline. Hope this helps anyone else looking for this issue.

im always tring with these two options selected: "auto start emulation" and "switch to fullscreen at startup", and changing in the video options the display mode and the 16 bit or 32 bit..don't know what to do anymore. looked very easy but then this problem came up.

i just gave up trying and added NES to MESS and it works flawlessly (the controller's setup is a mess when it comes to the atari 5200 instead)

Problem was for me, that the ahk file launching nestopia, was corrupting the xml file, deleted the stuff about the xml and it works now.
